General Discussion / 4 team Challenge Cup
« on: July 18, 2018, 09:45:37 AM »
I see both  Liege Warsaw (UCL) and Rangers (EL) both won their respective qualifiers last night.

Would hope to see quite a few of their 1st team players at the Walks this weekend.
Rangers don't have any more pre-season games lined up this weekend. Wonder if Stevie G will be down watching his fringe players?

Although its U23 (modern name for reserves) this is a top draw pre-season event.

Hope people come out and support.

Local Poles
Local Scots

Great opportunity for those to see their teams.

That's not what I was really saying.
After the investment, the chairman, manager, players and supporters do expect to be in the mix.

What I was saying, is there will be others who also expect. The fact we have a sponsor doesn't advance us to go!!

We have to perform on the pitch.

If we didn't make the play-offs would be a disappointment for all !!

Especially the chairman who has set the bar high for achievement.

Spending doesn't buy you success. It only aids it.
Players on the pitch win you things.
Hopefully they play well and remain injury free. With a little bit of luck also.

I guess there are at least 10 other teams in the league who are also hoping to do good things this term. Just because we have a sponsor and raised entrance fee doesnt mean they will move aside for us I'm sure.

Also direction of footfall needs to be sorted match days to get people in there. Create demand, create atmosphere, create need to stock the bar, create the need to re-decorate.
Real chicken and Egg situation.

The bar can be opened as anything away from match days, however there has to be a market for it.

I drink in one of the most respected social clubs in West Norfolk. It has great facilities, snooker, pool, big screens, crib teams, summer events and top weekly entertainment. Always busy at weekends. Has 1000+ members. Currently that club is losing circa 4k per annum.

Is it worth the gamble?

It seems each thread gets hijacked into the lack of activity around the Blue & Gold
So here is a thread to discuss what could be done.

For me on match day the biggest issue is the position of the Blue & Gold in relation to the turnstile.
Back in the day folk would come through the turnstile straight into the bar. Hence it was vibrant pre and post match.
Now all the entrances and most exit are the other end of the ground. So footfall doesnt reach the B&G, naturaly. The cafe bar is still relativley busy. This splits the customers. So the B&G, which is bigger seems quiet.

Dont even think about opening the B&G as a pub venue.
Pubs and clubs are dieing, unless have prime location or something unique to offer.

I think there maybe some licence restriction as to events at the B&G. However if this could be overcome, could be a good venue for local bands to play. Would need to build a following

See my post regards cost of opening etc.
I guess people with knowledge knew that they would struggle to compete with other venues, hence not opening.
Other venues couldn't lose. They are open anyway. No additions to cost.
Yes would be great to have a thriving bar. Sometimes with business head you have to admit defeat.

I see Rangers Play Europa league 17th, then no other first team friendlies until 29th.
Could be a few fringe/first teamers in squad. Also, maybe, a visit from Stevie G.

You would think there would be a good turn out of Rangers fans from  southern England at least. They are well supported world wide. A great oppurtunity for Rangers fans living down here (from here) to see there team.
Also, Warsaw should appeal to our Eastern European friends.

I hope it is a success
However I fear a damp squib
Needs much more than a TV and a bar.
All about the volume of people and atmosphere generated.
And commercially the profit made

So who is changing there preferred venue to the walks, from where watched previous?

So looking from a business point of view, as we are thinking of making money.
How many staff required? 2 minimum @ min wage 8.30 per hour x min 4 hrs = 66.40 + NI = 75.00

Plus electric + cleaning + plastic cups (ha ha) = 10 approx.

So 85.00 cost before start. MINIMUM

Pint 3.20 (?) 50 % margin (?) = 1.60

So that's 53 pints to break even.

How many people would want to watch it in the Blue and Gold? Most local pubs & social clubs are showing it where many would be normal regulars. Or people chose to watch at home. Why would they want to come to walks? Adding food adds to costs and potential wastage.
So maybe not a bad decison NOT to open.

As always. Just my thoughts

General Discussion / Positive vibes

Good to see and hear lots of positive vibes coming out of the The Walks Stadium.
Even those who were on the end of suggested negatives from SC, such as Greg Plummer have talked positively of stuff going on behind the scenes.
Rome wasn't built in a day.
Long may we continue on this journey to the promised land. With a smile

Hope this can be piped into the bars and sponsors area pre/post match.

Add a bit of much needed atmosphere, especially in the sponsors bar.

Its a Hero Gym event, not KLTFC
I guess the media comes from them.
However, opportunity to flush through the bar pipes!
