General Discussion / A good day for real football?

I felt physically sick when I first heard the revelations about 'fat Sam'...............But was I surprised - NO! Just the tip of a very large iceberg....However much he may grovel and apologise about his 'misjudgement' (please!!!) there is just one word that comes to mind GREED!!

Yet the FA allegedly have rewarded him with a 1m severence payment.........You rerally couldn't make it up and undoubtedly now the lunatics are firmly in charge of the asylum.

He was already a very wealthy man and I wonder how many of those that subscribe to Sky and BT and / or pay the inflated prices charged at Premiership and to a certain extent Championship level now feel - as they are in fact fueling this gravy train?

Stating the obvious, I love the cut and thrust of general football debate and specifically that which relates to our club, on this forum. Genuinely held opinions, expressed constructively are integral to that, which others may well disagree with......Life would be incredibly boring if we all agreed about everything?! Let's keep it that way and try to avoid issues becoming too personal?

Did anything come of the initiative with local schools to submit ideas for a club mascot?

Although Framlingham were something of an unknown quantity a 6-1 defeat was wholly unexpected. Sounds like a real pasting?????????

Did not Setch' mention the possibility of a new mid fielder coming in or did I imagine that? It all seems to have gone very quiet on all fronts over the last few days - not least on this forum?

General Discussion / A change of emphasis................
« on: June 09, 2016, 10:39:30 AM »
.....................bringing most certainly a heightening of expectation?

Last season at the outset I guess most would have settled as 'progress' for a season of consolidation with an outside chance of a play off place - and that is very much what we got?

Up to the change in club ownership our sights were being raised just a little higher with our primary aim being a real go at the play offs?

Now....................surely we are going to be amongst a select few who the bookies will consider as title favourites, with the play offs an expectation rather than just a hope?

Exciting times but this brings with it pressure to deliver far greater than at anytime since the club was reformed?........The stakes are high!

General Discussion / Looking ahead
« on: June 01, 2016, 11:19:49 AM »
I have found it a bit difficult in trying sort the wheat from the chaff as there has been so much going on since the announcement of the change of ownership - and i hasten to add most of it good and positive, with Mr Cleeve showing a willingness to interact with and listen to the wants and needs of supporters but quite where we are at and likely to be going, well I for one am still  unsure, though I hope and expect that the forum will go someway to filling in the blanks..................?

It seems to me that on the one side we have those who prefer to focus on Mr Cheeve's past business record and his dealings with such as Wrexham, whilst in the opposite corner are the eternal optimists who see him as a likely 'saviour' who is going to drive us towards football league status, presumably ploughing loads of money in to fund this meteoric rise?

However, is not the middle ground the one we should be backing and hoping will come to fruition......Continuation of the youth policy with the emphasis on the local community, more meaningful involvement with supporters groups, marketing the club and forthcoming games much more procatively, generation of non match day revenue streams that will over time increase the playing budget; enabling the manager to enhance the quality of the squad etc etc...........A gradual process?

So it follows that Mr Cleeve is not going to be throwing money at the club to enable Setch' to make 'star' signings this season?.............I hope that we will continue to live within our means, financially.

General Discussion / A different game?
« on: May 24, 2016, 10:26:38 AM »
The recent events surrounding Man U, illustrate once and for all that football at that level is a different game to the one that we enjoy.........................It is no longer a sport - with supposedly anothere multi million pound pay off to a manager for 'failing' and allegedly a 4m fee to Mourinho even before he takes over..................Obscenity is probably a little strong but I would just love to see the day when Sky and BT decide that it is no longer worth extorting money from arm chair 'supporters' to shower such ever increasing riches on the undeserving.

I did not even get around to mentioning the parasitic mega wealthy agents!

General Discussion / So near?

I am still finding it difficult to believe that Leicester are on the verge of achieving something of a magnitude that I cannot previously recall in any of my 71 years...............My hero, Cloughie's exploits, I thought would never be surpassed but at that time there was not the money sloshing around at the elite level that there is now. What pleases and excites me most is that Ranieri aside from his managerial prowess seems to be a genuinely decent bloke........The whole squad have an all for one one for all attitude and he must take the credit for that......The elite of perhaps half a dozen clubs were I think beginning to believe that they had a divine right to win all of the trophies on offer, which just adds to the pot.........Fingers crossed and the icing on the cake for me will be if Palace beat Man U!!!!!!

..........following on from Jamie Vardy's Messiesque goal against Germany.......What a fantastic advert for non league......Four years ago he was scoring against us for St Ives and on Saturday the winner on his international debut for NI

Just goes to show that anything in life is possible if supported by determination, application, ability and opportunity.

The stuff dreams are made of?!
