Linnet 465- It’s the type of player I mean, of course, not the actualise! It I take your point, and agree the manager can only pick his best players. He didn’t, however, and Barrett is the prime example. Mall is right that a team have to stop the others scoring, but these days that is done with numbers, not mere defenders. Most teams get 10 men, or at least 9, behind the ball. If you want to see how “good” football works, Leverkusen in Germany look to Dilly like the best team since Barcelonas GOAT teams for about 10 years. Sure beats”winning fouls”, or “doing little fouls all over the pitch” as a way of playing most likely to win…
Even the greatest creative teams need a balance. Carlos Puyol at Barcelona being an example. Technically gifted but also quite pysical as and when required.

Will the Columbian players SC is eyeing up come in as first team or Academy players ? Be interesting to see more overseas input
An interesting country from which to recruit. I doubt though whether footballers will become their primary export commodity?

If i were a young local player of ability looking to develop my skills and as a natural stepping stone, to play for my local club, would i consider joining KLTFC under the current set up? No way!!

Not all local young players of ability will qualify for or be attracted by the academy system. I believe there to be a seam of talent with potential to develop playing in local 'men's football', which has some obvious advantages over academies, where they are playing against teams from the same age groups. Joe Taylor is constantly mentioned as a beacon that illustrates the academies success, yet in certain respects he has achieved that in spite of the efforts of his local club? In similar vein we did quite a good job in knocking Fletcher Toll's confidence but credit to him, he is now scoring for fun at Downham and i believe he will eventually play at a higher level. An example of one that we could have nurtured and developed?

A young Lad from Lynn, that was prepared to play for his home team for no wages for a month. Apparently, partly in order to get some game time but also because he was fully aware what the financial picture was at Lynn.
If he wasn't going to get game time they should never have agreed to take him. It has cost him his own personal money to be with Lynn for the time he was here.
He must be feeling so disillusioned with the whole episode.
B&G, I had heard a similar rumour re Powell's wages which, if true, does make how he was treated seem even worse.
If that is so, it is both embarrassing and shameful.

Played for Peterborough U21's against Bristol City last Saturday. Presumably loan period has finished, not given much game time at Lynn to impress. We are certainly lacking in pace across back line and as the only fit left back he should have been given a chance but it seems AL would rather play a centre back in this position instead.
I feel sorry for him. What a complete waste of time that was and I'd be surprised if Peterborough are best pleased?
Rod, I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately that is now the 2nd Peterborough loanee who has come to us and got next to no game time (can't remember the name of the young lad who came in IC's tenure) so it looks a bit like a 'club' thing rather than the manager, although in both cases you do wonder who arranged the loans? Whilst Powell didn't get much time on the pitch, to me he did at least look like he had a bit of positional sense as a left back which is more than can be said for anyone else apart from Isaacson who has lined up there this season, although I am not sure I agree with Normski's thoughts that he added much pace.
Tony, i have thought for quite a while that local players are not valued as highly as those that come from outside the area. Why? I have no idea, as this would seem to be wholly illogical? The primary recent example being Joe Taylor, who i believe suffered from 'local boy syndrome'? Perhaps, i have been spoilt over the years, being able to watch such as the Defty brothers and many more, who added value to the club both on and off the pitch. They metaphorically 'kissed the badge' because it really meant something to them!

An obvious succeeder in the making while at Lynn. I recall the advice on here that “Carey should be put on loan while he learns the game”! Sam Kelly wasn’t rated either. People go on muscle rather than ability for some strange reason!
. Xavi, Iniesta and even Messi might well have been rejected by the academy system at the time they were emerging in Barcelona!

The current and most recent regimes seem to have a problem with retaining and developing local players with potential, that is both illogical and self defeating. Joe Taylor being the obvious stand out example but there are others, including those mentioned in this thread. By way of additional example: Fletcher Toll, who was outstanding on Saturday in spite of his recent Linnet experience and then there is a sixteen year old striker, James Moore (?) playing and scoring for Downham, who are currently riding high. But why would any local young player of potential consider joining Lynn in this climate?
