Unless they have a hugely talented squad and / or unlimited funds the best coaches are flexible, in that they tailor the system to best suit the players at their disposal?

Recruitment of a proven goalscorer at this level, mid season, is surely going to be a very expensive exercise in terms of transfer fees and wages. Only the chairman knows if this is affordable?
If it is, then good contacts are invaluable either via the manager or DOF. If not, having a short term replacement for Backie is not really that important or relevant? 95

i recall that was very much Brian Clough's philosophy, which served him quite well. 96

General Discussion / Re: Time for a change?« on: November 14, 2021, 01:44:02 PM »Think you have to sack Culverhouse, and get someone else in if you want to compete at this level. Some of the signings this season, suggest Cleeve wants to be at this level, so he now needs to bite the bullet and fork out the compensation. That is the reality. Are we certain that there are quality coaches / managers out there viewing the current set up as an attractive proposition and career advancement....I think that to be highly unlikely. 100
General Discussion / Re: Joe Taylor« on: November 14, 2021, 10:23:13 AM »
I wish him well but just cannot understand why he was not given a decent chance to prove his worth at NL level. A self defeating decision, as what was there to lose?
Added to which, although it is unrealistic to develop a team of locals, i and the majority of supporters love to see a local boy succeed, rather then just badge kissing mercenaries. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!! 101

Why is it too late for Taylor to solve our goalscoring problem? Has it been officially confirmed that he has signed for Peterborough?

General Discussion / Re: Walsall at home« on: November 08, 2021, 10:11:46 AM »
A disappointing crowd when maybe 1,000 more might have been reasonably expected to attend?
Why? Some.elderly supporters still probably fear being in such close proximity with others over a couple of hours or so but perhaps the risk of getting caught up in hooligan activity at 'big games' is also a factor? 104
General Discussion / Re: Are we playing a football league team in fa cup Saturday?« on: November 04, 2021, 09:20:52 PM »Just listened to Ian Culverhouse and his pre match interview. One very unhappy man judging by his answers, body language and seemingly total apathy towards those interviewing him. Is anyone really surprised??? 105
General Discussion / Re: Sponsorship opportunity« on: November 03, 2021, 10:40:06 AM »
It surely beggars belief that match sponsorship for the Walsall game appears to have been something of an afterthought,? Or am i being unreasonable?
I thought the club had a new commercial supremo onboard? |
