General Discussion / Re: Away vs Weymouth (17th October)
« on: October 17, 2020, 05:38:10 PM »
Agree with WLM - Smith had a good game.  We looked a better side than Weymouth.  Football throws up bad patches where a team can miss a penalty, then give one away.  I知 still sure we can hold our own in this league.  McAuley was  decent until he hit his own bad patch.  King looked good, but had no attacking midfielders with him, so that meant nothing for Southwell and Marriott to use consistently.  It値l come though, as long as no one starts falling out !  Weymouth looked ordinary, and Maidenhead are certainly showing how well we did there !  Chins Up !!

So our team beat the team who beat Wrexham away.  That makes us capable of doing well in this league.  I maintain that we need one/possibly two slippery nipsters, but, until then we値l be OK if we play on the ground to create chances.
Dilly痴 team for Weymouth....  Street;  Jones McAuley,Smith,Brown;  Barrows/Clunan;  Richards,Carey,King/Kelly,Power; Southwell/Marriott.   Subs: Mair, Barrows/Clunan, King/Kelly, Southwell/Marriott, Loza.  Choices depending on fitness.   Weymouth have Very well-appointed ground. .....And a real pity about the Notts County tie being behind closed doors, and the big crowds I believe we would be getting. In many games.

Mall - slippery and nippy are the same.  Take a look at the last 2 games, and you値l see slippery nipsters running us ragged !  Yes, Peds for Saturday,.  Anyone noticed Maidenhead beat Wrexham Way ?  That was a good win for us , and should give the squad confidence again....

Hi KES !  In both defeats we were pulled apart by their slippery players.  We値l never stop that sort with 都trength because our strongmen will be tackling thin air !  It often amuses me listening to commentators and their right-hand pros talking about 都trength, 塗olding players, etc., because when you see the replay there was no contact at all !  It痴 a cliche/trend to me!  典hat Number 10 position is up there as well !  If there WAS strength, it痴 virtually always a foul!  Ijust think we have to get some nippy players quick, or we値l struggle to win games at all.  Hoe I知 wrong !

For too long English pundits have gone on about size and strength.  ....  but it痴 nipsters that the better teams have.  They were too quick for us all over the pitch.  We need a couple of nipsters.  And. Carey has to start....  But I do agree we need a CH... Solihull and BW have shown it痴 so important to have slippery players who are quick over short distances.....We have some players who are quick over long distances, but the gaps aren稚 there to run into !.....

I致e found the streaming to be good.  Haven稚 used a code though - just pay up in the 10 mins before kick-off, then you池e straight in....        .....   And after last week, I think we need a CH, plus (essential) two nippy eels like Archer.  They win the matches, IMO.  Hope tonight that the midfield feed Southwell and Marriott - Dayle to run on to, and/or Adam, to feet.  Sailing over their heads gives them no chance...  Is Simon Power back ?
Dilly痴 team vs Boreham Wood.....  Street; Jones,Barrows,McCauley/Smith, Brown; Richards; Carey,King, Kelly,Power; Southwell.  Subs Mair, McCauley/Smith, Clunan, Marriott, Barker/Hawkins...... (IMHO !!)

I agree we池e not quick enough in central defence.  I don稚 think physicality in that area is lacking, because that can result in penalties !  From the games I致e seen, the top teams have some quick off the mark tricky players that are the difference.  Notts County have Roberts, Reeves, Wootton, and the winger who scored today, (don奏 have his name to hand).  Wootton is big, but has clever feet. Solihull have Archer, who ran us ragged the whole game.  Strong defenders can稚 stop that type.  Nine men back for a forest of legs, IMO !  We only had individual defenders to stop Archer and others.  He should have had 6 to beat, not 1 or 2.  Where was Jarvis playing ?  Opponents are mostly young, fit, and quick, and slippery.  We need the same, then put THEM on the defensive for periods. Our strikers are not being supplied with the ball !

At no time did Southwell get a through all or Marriott get one to feet.  They spent all game watching the ball fly high over their shoulders. So the midfield were to blame today.  Also our 2CHs were slow.  Same with Jarvis.  We must have been expecting a physical exam, but their strength was in a good passing game, plus some slippery skill men who ran us ragged.  Archer, in particular.  They are a good side in a smart stadium, to be fair., and played good football throughout. I thought Smith looked favourite for that ball against Archer, but he seemed to back off to get a position to defend a cross.  Anyway, we値l be back, but we must pick the players who値l pin the opponents back....And where was Power ?  Rant over !!!  Apols for boring you on a Sat night.  Time for a beer !

Dilly痴 team vs Solihull....  Street/Mair;  Jones, McAuley, Smith, Brown;  Barrows;  Clunan, Richards, King, Power;  Southwell.  Subs, Kelly, Carey, Marriott, Street/Mair, Jarvis.  Hate not picking Kelly, Carey, Marriott, but can稚 change yet.  When we do, we値l lose nothing, and gain plenty ! No offence to Jarvis fans, but think Barrows perfect for adding to defence and augmenting attack.  What a bench though  - bring all 3 on at once when needed !

General Discussion / So far, so good.

Fine start, but I see IC痴 point about mistakes.  Seen highlights of most teams now, and haven稚 come across any frighteners yet !  BUT, Notts County have 3 excellent attacking players who I知 sure IC will be have a big think about over his Xmas Pud !  Reeves is a tenacious Billy Bremner type with a great shot, Wootton is a tall CF who is great in the air, but also has clever feet on the floor, and Roberts is a slippery match-winner of real skill.  But we have the talent to spoil their appetite for their Xmas Pud as well.....

Attractive stadium.  They don稚 look as good as Notts County did on TV this week !  We have our usual decent chance, IMO....

Blue - You池e right about the performances/results so far, and that we should all be upbeat because of them.  But sponsorships and the image of the ground (including the flag) are very important too, because they add to the professionalism.  That professionalism is a necessity if the club is to maintain the standard we池e now at...

You池e right, Mallard....  Missed off the other sub.  It痴 Jarvis. If we need to hang on, or Hawkins if we need a goal.  Bit annoyed with myself for putting Kelly and Carey on the bench, because last season they were my first two names on the sheet.  But I try to pick horses for courses.  Those two will play more than most, I think, but tonight I want Barrows adding to defence, and augmenting attack.  What a good squad we have, but, no doubt, so do all the others ,
