Sounds good, Malcolm.  Number 7s are often the match winners.  They certainly were last season, but unfortunately against us !

Much as I hope it’s a great season, I don’t believe anywhere should be opening at the moment.  This thing is not a quitter, and would grab the chance of mutating.

Did anyone see the MK workout ?  Interested in opinions about the numerous trialists.  Any obvious footballers, as opposed to just “effort” or “workrate” types ?

No KES, in football, 100 rards is long distance !  I’m talking 2 or 3 yards to leave a man for dead !  GREAT STUFF. AMERON KING - A DILLYMAN, through and through !!!

We need more in the match winning departments.  We look ok in the big slow lunks department, but must get some footballers in, some who can cross the half-way line as a unit, and keep the ball together, then create chances.  Can’t really judge until we know the players, particularly the newcomers.  Any speedsters, wingers, wing-backs?  Still think Southwell will do very well, IF he’s in a chance creating team, not merely a “crossing” team.

Thanks to KES, Mall, B & G, and Marcus.  Always pleasing to receive compliments from people whose posts I enjoy, as well.  What is good about this forum, imho, is that, in general, the posts and posters obviously intend to forward the club in some way, from our largely powerless positions, (except Dillyteamselections, of course !), and not egotistical “needs”.  I do wish to reiterate the importance of staying safe when we are again in each other’s company, and not necessarily reacting to often unwarranted Government “Positivity”.  Finally, I hope the signings have merely stalled, and not stopped, whilst appreciating they must be the most difficult side of management.

The entire Governance of the nation is built on the “What we want” syndrome, in strong preference to what is available, and what is fair and proper for us to have.  In addition, we now have a “Do what you like, personal choice” regime starting on 19th July.  The entire edifice has now handed carte Blanche sensibility to the many millions of people, unfortunately, who can now put “what they want” above all consideration for the health and safety of others around them.  I hope the league starts, but only if it is safe to do so,and that rules are put in place to ensure the safety of all who attend, even those who give not a toss about the very serious situation, or the health of those they are next to, in the ground.  I’m impressed by the financial nous I feel the Chairman must have, to keep this show on the road.

I agree that taller players can also run fast, and play on the ground, but that’s basically over long distances.  The short speed off the mark, over perhaps a couple of yards, is often where they have difficulty against nipsters.  Doku, Saka, Sterling, Mbappe, Chiesa, etc, have shown that this month. I know that’s International level, but the same differentials exist at NL level as well.  No worries though, I’m sure IC knows that as well …..

We don’t yet know the standard of the new names, but from the Nemesis list, we look very short of a creative playmaker.  That puts the onus very much on to Cameron King, so we must hope he is fully fit again.  We look OK for huge Central defenders, which might help, unless the opponents play on the ground, which a lot of the unfair bar-stewards tend to do !

We can’t afford to have a team of big slow lunks again.  We must get into their half as ŵell, or the lunks will not keep the nipsters out for 90 minutes.  I remember when the 3, 4, and 5 goal defeats started up last season,  because our ultra-defensive line-ups we’re run ragged by the quick, usually small wingers of the top half teams.  At least our GK might come off his line this season, which would make a nice change.  I’m really hoping King is going to be OK, because he, above all, takes us one level higher, as long as he’s fit, of course.

M A Hill, (Malcolm, I believe).  In response to your recent post, Johnson doesn’t have a say in when we get back to normal, or let the fun begin.  He can say it, and some will take it as gospel, but it’s not his decision.  Only Mr Covid can pronounce the return to normality.

True.  If IC wanted him, he probably knows what he is getting.  Just looked on YT, and, if we can spend plenty of time in the opponents half, I think Gold could score for us.  Fingers crossed, of course.  Is Dayle Southwell still with us ?

Well, you’ve got your “Big Man” “up top” ! (those that want one).   Now going to have a look on YouTube, to see if he can play.  I just hope we’re not going to rely on what I call the “FA Cup - Muddy pitch” game, booting it up, and seeing what comes off the big man.  Of course, he could be good on the floor, and make use of what the nipsters create.  I’m always wary of that “brings others into play” cliche, because, as I like to see midfields flood forward in numbers, I feel that, if any aren’t already in play, they shouldn’t be on the pitch !!

Anyone see Doku of Belgium last night ?  Now THAT is a nipster.  Sensational.  He was going past the Big Lunks at the back like they’d never played before.  And Insigne, of Italy !  I f I maycontinue on Kes’s incorrect assumption that a Dilly team would have 7 or 8 nipsters, he has ( or rather you have, if you’re reading , KES) misunderstood.  But ironically, the line-up he advocates would have 5 at the back, then a “holder” in front of them.  Including the GK, that’s 7 defenders, and only 4 players who might win a game for us occasionally.  Shades of last season’s hammerings, in the Dillyfied perception !
