General Discussion / Re: Good day ! / Great 12 months

Nice dream from Linnet 64, but we need terraces behind the goals and a professional financial set-up before that dream can be genuinely contemplated.   Nothing wrong with dreaming at Xmas, however !

Yes, I agree with WLM - Aaron Jones looks an ideal replacement....

Great pity.  I’m attack minded, and MC does his bit there, but every team needs an “all over the pitch” energy player, and he is so good as that man...  Speedy recovery to him.  We DO have the quality all over the squad to replace him, but nobody quite with his versatile style.  I hope we DON’T bring in a loan player because we have talented players deserving of games and certainly of the standard to dominate these games.

Tricky draw - any National League team away is bound to be .  BUT, a very decent chance of progress with this squad.  I would think Ebbsfleet would be more concerned than KL.  Good ground, been before, old -fashioned and sizeable stadium.

Fingers crossed on the injuries/illnesses, but as long as all positions covered with fit men then whatever selection made or forced, we will continue to be a real handful for any forthcoming opponent.  On the attendance point re Dover, I was initially disappointed, but the Sunday paper showed that virtually all attendances in the FAT were lower than usual.  I don’t think the early rounds of this competition interest the supporters too much, but that should change for later rounds.  Four important league games coming up, so, again, fingers crossed on fitness.  Well done Steve the groundsman again.

Think we have to stay positive.  “Holding” players tend to leave a team using them a man short, and also concede territory, allowing the opponents to come at us, because we wouldn’t be keeping them on the back foot.  Just my opinion, no offence meant. I just believe the old adage “attack is the best for.m of defence”.

Steve - there are 4 reasons of absolutely equal importance as to why this club has hit an outstanding level.  I repeat, all 4 are of equal level in importance....  The Chairman, the Manager, the Team, and Steve’s massively improved pitch.  Fingers crossed that we enthuse the personnel responsible for our dramatic improvement to continue their interest and efforts.

I respect your view, Mallard, but I think the idea of a big bloke holding it up and bringing others into play is part “Old W-formation” and part mythology cliche. It is only a method used by teams who “hump it up”.   Few teams play like that in the modern era, and my natural cynicism causes my belief that, in general, if a player needs to be “brought into the game” he shouldn’t be on the pitch !  Of course, it works sometimes in a game, but can’t dictate the style of play for a consistently successful team.  I do like Gash, though, because when he’s on, he does a lot more than hold it up.

Haveto agree withMacFlletwood - Gash has looked a bit road-wary for a few games now, although I missed the Gateshead win.  Obviously still an important player for us, but when we get the chance perhaps he could have a rest and let’s see Hawkins in his place for a couple of games.  Hawkins pace and movement would make him a good tactical change when Gash is having a bogged-down game.  Hope that pitch stays playable as regards our impressive fluency on the ground.  Dover might well have a problem in dealing with our excellent attacking midfield, whatever the selection.

IC has difficult selection problems, as usual, but he does have the insurance that he can’t go too far wrong because every player in the squad has a right to a place in this team.  I continue to hope that Kelly and Carey are selected, but, by my own logic, whatever team he picks will be justifiable.  Just hope the pitch avails itself to our best football as we have developed a real flow to our game, and it would reduce our chances of victory, in all games, if we have to resort to slogging it out.  Completely attacking line-up, please !!.....

Thanks to TonyM for his comprehensive report.  IMHO the Chairman showed, as he has done throughout his tenure, that, even considering the excellent standard of the players, SC is the club’s finest acquisition for decades.  Obviously the hardest thing in the future could be keeping IC and some of the players, but if we can keep SC there must be a chance of further progress....

I missed this game, but not surprised to read that Kelly and Carey turned the game in Lynn’s favour when they came on.  The team sheet looked too defensive and would encourage the opponents to come at us.  We’re top scorers in any level of pro- football this season, any team would stay back, in general, if we have an entirely attacking midfield, home or away.  Big thanks, as usual, to The Chairman and IC......

Mallard asks about “potential”.  I believe we do have that potential.  As well as the disadvantage of our geographical position, it is also a distinct advantage available to very few other clubs.......  It means we have a catchment of approx 120,000 people with no club in competition with us at this level.  But we have to attract those potential additions to our regular gate.  I’ve always believed our ground is not impressive enough, in terms of comfort and development to sufficiently interest those “armchair fans” and once again, the only way that problem can be addressed is through a proper financial structure, to enable ground improvement enough to impress the missing many throughout West Norfolk.
