Think we have to stay positive.  “Holding” players tend to leave a team using them a man short, and also concede territory, allowing the opponents to come at us, because we wouldn’t be keeping them on the back foot.  Just my opinion, no offence meant. I just believe the old adage “attack is the best for.m of defence”.

Steve - there are 4 reasons of absolutely equal importance as to why this club has hit an outstanding level.  I repeat, all 4 are of equal level in importance....  The Chairman, the Manager, the Team, and Steve’s massively improved pitch.  Fingers crossed that we enthuse the personnel responsible for our dramatic improvement to continue their interest and efforts.

I respect your view, Mallard, but I think the idea of a big bloke holding it up and bringing others into play is part “Old W-formation” and part mythology cliche. It is only a method used by teams who “hump it up”.   Few teams play like that in the modern era, and my natural cynicism causes my belief that, in general, if a player needs to be “brought into the game” he shouldn’t be on the pitch !  Of course, it works sometimes in a game, but can’t dictate the style of play for a consistently successful team.  I do like Gash, though, because when he’s on, he does a lot more than hold it up.

Haveto agree withMacFlletwood - Gash has looked a bit road-wary for a few games now, although I missed the Gateshead win.  Obviously still an important player for us, but when we get the chance perhaps he could have a rest and let’s see Hawkins in his place for a couple of games.  Hawkins pace and movement would make him a good tactical change when Gash is having a bogged-down game.  Hope that pitch stays playable as regards our impressive fluency on the ground.  Dover might well have a problem in dealing with our excellent attacking midfield, whatever the selection.

IC has difficult selection problems, as usual, but he does have the insurance that he can’t go too far wrong because every player in the squad has a right to a place in this team.  I continue to hope that Kelly and Carey are selected, but, by my own logic, whatever team he picks will be justifiable.  Just hope the pitch avails itself to our best football as we have developed a real flow to our game, and it would reduce our chances of victory, in all games, if we have to resort to slogging it out.  Completely attacking line-up, please !!.....

Thanks to TonyM for his comprehensive report.  IMHO the Chairman showed, as he has done throughout his tenure, that, even considering the excellent standard of the players, SC is the club’s finest acquisition for decades.  Obviously the hardest thing in the future could be keeping IC and some of the players, but if we can keep SC there must be a chance of further progress....

I missed this game, but not surprised to read that Kelly and Carey turned the game in Lynn’s favour when they came on.  The team sheet looked too defensive and would encourage the opponents to come at us.  We’re top scorers in any level of pro- football this season, any team would stay back, in general, if we have an entirely attacking midfield, home or away.  Big thanks, as usual, to The Chairman and IC......

Mallard asks about “potential”.  I believe we do have that potential.  As well as the disadvantage of our geographical position, it is also a distinct advantage available to very few other clubs.......  It means we have a catchment of approx 120,000 people with no club in competition with us at this level.  But we have to attract those potential additions to our regular gate.  I’ve always believed our ground is not impressive enough, in terms of comfort and development to sufficiently interest those “armchair fans” and once again, the only way that problem can be addressed is through a proper financial structure, to enable ground improvement enough to impress the missing many throughout West Norfolk.

Half-time of another impressive start for our team at Hereford, so opportunity to join the discussion.  I believe the record we have this season should have us pulling in crowds as good as the “big” games of the last couple of years.  The Slough game showed the kind of latent interest there is in the area, and our performances should surely be creating that level of interest.  The fact that it isn’t makes me think that perhaps we are not the “sleeping giant” we have always thought and boasted.  This is not pessimism or negativity, it is reluctant realism.  But we’re not too late.  We have a very exciting rest of season left, and if IC, SC, players and staff an keep it up, we just might see a real upturn in attendance.  Spread the word !  But, inevitably, we must get a commercial scheme up and running on a proper basis.......  COYL !

Too soon to be really worried, but realistically, the question is creeping into the background as to whether the people of King’s Lynn and surrounding area are truly interested in playing at national level, even in reaching the EFL itself, even maintaining our current level.  Considering the incredible season we have had so far, we certainly shouldn’t be relying on travelling supporters to pull our attendance up to a thousand.  We either need to double the crowd or somehow obtain a proper commercial strategy and policy.

I could bore everyone with my choice of line-up, but will reduce by simply saying Kelly and Carey should be in the team, IMHO.  IC has a difficult task every week because the squad is so “equal”, and maybe the trickiest decision is whether, as asked by a previous poster, Gash should return or the Southport team should continue.  Very difficult, as the team are currently very fluent on the floor.  That suggests stay as we are, but MG is good on the ground as well as in the air.  Over to you, IC !

We’ve had a culture of “physicality” in the game in this country that frequently throws up incidents that in any other walk of life would cause legal consequences for the instigators.  It often spoils the spectacle by removing through injury the most talented players, the ones the public paid to see in action.  I sincerely hope the player in question in this incident soon finds resolution to his advantage.

Tragically, the racism issue is a nationwide problem.  It is a stain on our outlook on life, but it certainly isn’t experienced solely in the football world.  Indeed, “the game” is mostly powerless to prevent the appalling incidents we often witness, and any blame attached to it is often delivered to deflect attention away from the National problem.  Of course clubs must do their best to deal with individual incidents, but the cure, in the end, can only come through sanctions and education outside the game.
