General Discussion / Re: FA Cup draw

Not a weakened team at all, IMHO.  One that would be likely to keep the opponents under more pressure than us, and a goal threat throughout the line-up.  I would be happy to see that team sheet at Nantwich, but whatever team IC picks won’t be weaker than any other because we week-stocked throughout the squad.
All IMHO, of course !!

Looks a good selection for today’s game.    A team to go at them, then retreat en bloc to defend.  We should be OK, but , like all teams that top their table, they will have one or two very dangerous attackers.........

We are playing the way that will mostly brings success.  Teams that try to “win ugly” don’t win very often.  No need to alter style for Home or Away.  We have speed and guile in midfield, any 2 from 3 in central defence, and goal scoring front men.  That’s all we need to make the play-offs, IMHO.  We’ll lose some, of course, but not many if we attack in numbers, and get 10 behind the ball (including the GK) to produce a “forest of legs”. Ask Gash to be one of that 10, and get two quicker ones to be ready to counter.  Have faith in our on the ground style - we look too good for most and therefore capable of promotion....  If we mainly defend away, we’ll lose more often....

I’ll be very interested to see what team IC picks today.  We now have enough fluency to keep the hosts in their half, but our embarrassment of midfield riches means we can’t play them all.  Apart from the regulars, Carey and Kelly have shown their real ability, and on Tuesday night Barrows and Smith were excellent.  Over to you IC - my only wish is that if we need change to go for a win you don’t leave substitutions too late, because we have so much ability on the bench, whichever line-up you go for......  Good luck to all this afternoon....

Good news indeed, and thanks to the organiser(s).  We’ll all have ideas for ground improvements, so here’s my two penneth......Better terrace at Tennyson Avenue end, and cover for one of the ends.  Perhaps catering or toilets at corner-ends of Walks terrace.  Then, of course, the turnstiles.  At last we have various opportunities for real progress as a club and a team, and I sincerely hope IC, SC, the groundsman, ( big thank you there), and the admin team, volunteers, and the Trust maintain the interest and ambition that have brought us this far....

Actually they haven’t lost at all this season, not just at home....  I’m not being pessimistic, just vigilant ......

Agree with most of that, but feel Kelly had too much of a left-wing role and would be very threatening inside as it’s more of his natural position.  Don’t know how IC will pick the team for York.  All 16 give us real advantages in different ways, but rather than a “Carragher/Neville” diatribe of tactics and formations I suggest the team personnel should be picked to produce last night’s slipperiness with added Gash !

General Discussion / Leek Town

Can’t have any over-confidence vs Leek Town.  They are joint top of their league and haven’t lost a home game all season.  ALSO - Sutton Coldfield, who are 2nd from bottom of the same league, last night knocked Kettering Town out of the FA Cup, so playing at Leek’s home ground may be problematic.  Our regular performance will be needed, and ought to be enough......

Agree with much of TonyM’s post.  All our attacking players played well and in a style that I’ve been advocating, (not a boast, just pleased to see it).  We had the fluidity I expected with those personnel, and keeping the opponents on the back foot is DEFENDING as well !  IC must have a real problem picking a side at the moment because all 16 players deserve to be in ! Don’t quite agree that Kelly didn’t take his chance.  His ability is obvious and he is one of our most important assets.  Anyway - what a season we are developing here - York and Leek could rock the town and hugely lift the attendances......

Lots of posts bemoaning our “small” squad, but in terms of people up to first team level we are well off because none of the squad are fill-ins ...  they are all real assets and it’s now difficult to pick a team because to do so you would have to leave out potential match-winners.  I’ve mentioned Carey and Kelly before, and they MUST play regularly so that the team benefits from their talents and also that they are happy to remain.  But I don’t envy IC, because it must be very difficult to settle on a line-up at the moment.  I personally hope the game gets postponed tonight because the pitch is in for a flood, and we don’t want injuries vs York....

Haven’t seen real problems against “physical” teams so far, and don’t recall Alfreton being particularly physical.  Even if they play it that way in the cup, either Alfreton will play some of the game with less than 11 men, or suffering from their stodgy physical lunks being danced round by Carey and Kelly, two players who must now play regularly...... So let’s be too slick for them and head for the next round with some of our players having rested before the big clash with York City.....

I take on board points made by Mallard and Kes (I think), but do think we lack much structure in fund raising, etc..  Despite being pleased to see good improvement in attendances this season I feel the actual attendance, considering the superb entertainment that is being served, is disappointing.  We have a huge catchment area (KL-Hunstanton- Fakenham - Downham- Wisbech area -Kl, and all villages in that circle) so really should be “pulling them in”.  We need cover, in part, behind the goals - few clubs at our level lack it. Back to the squad - still disagree with The Duck Man re Carey.  IMHO we can’t let him out on loan - he is FAR too good, and thought he looked very good on Sat vs Gloucester....Kelly as well - exactly what we need in this level of better players and less reliance on “physicality” which usually results in fouls and injuries.....and not points in the bag...

By the way, .... rather disappointing attendances despite real improvement from last season, but the team IC, and SC deserve far bigger crowds.  SPREAD THE WORD !!

Great spirit to pull it back at the end.  We did have other chances which we didn’t mess up - credit to the opponent’s defensive determination.  We played well but ran into a team who smothered us very well with a forest of legs.  Disagree with Mallard about Carey in particular, as I think we saw today he’s a fine natural footballer.  IC couldn’t change a winning team, but Messrs Kelly and Carey are every bit as good as the rest - in fact I predict super seasons for both, plus Payne......York will be the test, but we have 15 players who can take this league to the wire, IMHO.....
