And another helpful result at Darlington, with Brackley dropping points....  A good Saturday, and the weather/ pitch will soon start improving.  If only the world could kill off that damn bug......

Real pity York got that last minute equaliser, but still a great result for us !  I genuinely thought Curzon Ashton would be tricky for York, but it’s disappointing that they couldn’t hang on for the win.  But with a fitter and rested squad, plus now 4 games in hand over York, surely we can permit ourselves a degree of excitement about the end of this magnificent season ?!!

Chester, Boston, and Brackley all look to have tricky fixtures this weekend, and for a long-shot I think Curzon A. might frighten York.  They looked a good side at the Walks, despite the score, and although in a lowly position have had some surprising results.  I thought they looked good here earlier in the season....

General Discussion / Re: Re: Southport Saturday POSTPONED
« on: February 28, 2020, 05:35:25 PM »
We are getting less cavalier now that things are tightening up in the table.  I think we need to get on the front foot again, going for the opposition rather than sitting back and letting them come on to us.  Would like in away games to see Southwell in place of MG, and one of Kelly, Payne or Carey in place of Jarvis, to give us more pace and mobility, so keeping the opposition on the back foot.  That also gives us a stronger defensive set-up. At home, we ought to dominate with whatever line-up, but we must use our excellent range of attacking midfielders much earlier if we find we need more goal-threat.  Power is very dangerous, but suffered, as all teams do against a 20-legs forest defence.  Forget systems, and try to outnumber them in all areas of the pitch, like Leipzig !  All IMHO, of course !

I think Jarvis and MG could use a rest, with Carey and Southwell in to add mor pace and goal potential.  Those two to come back in at home, but away, we must attack more and attack (and defend) with numbers.  Leipzig showed the value of a whole team of quick and slippery players- obviously we’re not their level, but we do have the personnel to play that game at OUR level.....

We’re still in a strong position.  However, risking it being called out as sacrilege to say so, I believe we are too slow in a couple of positions when playing away from home.  It’s usually expected to have an attacking line-up at home and a more defensive side away.  I think that’s wrong.  Yesterday’s team would have been fine at home where we dominate the play, but away we need to pin them back rather than let them come on to us.  Attack is the best form of defence, IMO. I think Carey and Southwell would have reduced Chester attacking regularity.  Always strange to me when a team brings a defender on to “tighten up”, as it says to the opponents they can come at us more !  And, where was Power ?.......

Must be “W” formation, because that’s how they lined up then.....
Stretten;  Mackey, Gidman;  ?, Howe, ? ;  Baxter, Davies, Bridges, Wignall, Jones.
Any fellow old buggers able to fill in the Question marks ?

Agreed, Wingwizrd...  Football is not football in those conditions.  It is a lottery - may as well toss a coin, and stay in the warm !  Seriously the pitch is the main criterion, of course, but games ARE cancelled through high winds, and there is also the travel element for the team and their supporters.....Any doubt, and I would hope the game is called off.....

Good idea, MacFleetwood....  hope yours isn’t the last we hear of that one....  Boston’s great double decker stand would be nice behind one of our goals, as well !

Sad for Wisbech, and you have to admire how quickly they built the covered stands at both ends of their new ground.  Hopefully the plans muted regarding the neglected parts of our own ground will come to fruition soon, as whispered.  In addition, on grounds, I imagine many Boston U fans will be gutted at losing their excellent stadium, however neat the new modern ground proves to be...
