General Discussion / Re: Gary Setchell

Yes, maybe. Although, TW was allowed to sign 8 players, he just didnít get a forward. Agree that good forwards donít come cheap, but SC said he would do whatever it takes to keep us up. Now I realise there is only so much that he can do, but having said what he said and we never got a forward in is a little contradictory.

Wonder if we will remain full time next season, assuming we are in the NLN, what do you think?

Granted, IC didnít bring in a forward. TW came in and could knew scoring goals was a problem. He signed, I believe 8 players, but not a goal scorer. Recently, weíve been playing some good football, but without scoring, or posing much of a real threat. Had we signed someone in January, maybe we would be above Aldershot now. Anyway, we are where we are and although getting relegated will be disappointing, itís not the end of the world. If TW is here for the start of next season, then I wish him well.

As for Paget Rangers, Iím not sure, but December 23rd rings a bell. Seem to remember it was Christmas time, canít remember the year. I remember the kit, I had a Lynn shirt, which I had McNamara printed on the back. Was the year 1995? They were a good forward painting, also remover Martin Coupe and Kevin Ready, they knew how to score.

Itís all ifs and buts, but the fact is weíve had two disappointing seasons at this level. Weíve had some very memorable seasons in recent times, so lots of good memories. Going forward I donít feel TW is the right man, his style of play isnít attractive. His body language in post match interviews along with excuses, ie pitch. Well I remember Lynn v Paget Rangers (we won 2-0) on a much worse pitch.
I said we needed to win 4 of our last 6 games, so now we need to win the remaining 4 and hope Aldershot donít pick up more than 4 points in their remaining 6 games, very unlikely however. So it will be back in the NLN and TW if still here will be chirping on about all the Ďbig clubsí who are really football league clubs, or should be in the National League, York, Chester, Hereford etc. He failed his set target of going up just two places. He seemed to think it was not difficult when he first came. He will say his PPG are better than ICís were. Fact is, TW had over half a season, didnít bring in good enough players, didnít bring in any forward and didnít get us out of the relegation spots. Ok, so please tell me why he should be here next season.

Well done to Setch and Bedford. Culverhouse was a class manager with good contacts, not impressed with Widdrington. Not bringing a forward in has contributed to us getting relegated. It amuses me how he goes on about our opponents are really league clubs, maybe once upon a time, but not at present. Cleave has done well for the club, but there isnít enough paying fans to sustain National League football at full time level.
Getting relegated is part of football, hopefully we can get to this level again and do things a bit better.

Will be a great atmosphere today, hopefully we can come away with all 3 points. Realistically though, we probably wonít. As for next season, lots of decisions to be made, personally I would like to see a new manager, TW has failed in what he was brought in for, didnít even come close if we are being honest.
Omotoyo has hit a bit of form, so his confidence will be good for today, hopefully he can find the net. Good luck to all the team.

At half time, that was a game we should have went on to win. Maybe if Sundire had been substituted for A Jones things would have been different. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but Sundire didnít have a good first half, conceding the penalty and getting booked and too many poor passes going out of play.
Trying to run the clock down with the corners, that is what most teams would do, we just seemed to lose possession too quickly with it though.
With Aldershot winning, it now is a a too bigger gap, unless we win 4 of our remaining games. Stranger things have happened. Next up away to Notts County, normally you would say a point there would be good, not in this instance though, we need to win there.

Good morning Normski
If we do manage to stay up it would be a remarkable achievement, given our situation only a few weeks ago. So the fact that we still have a fighting chance of National League football again next season, then we really need a win today. Home games are where we need to win. The next two games are tough games, so a win today would be good. I know it wonít be easy, TW said he was happy with a point at Dover, well if you watch the highlights of that game, you can clearly see the disappointment from the players at the final whistle.
If we play with the same commitment and effort as we showed Tuesday, then we will be ok. We need to take the game to Yeovil and donít give them time on the ball. Hopefully after the game, we will all be very happy.

Yes Mallard, of course we will look out for Aldershotís score, so long as we keep picking up points by hopefully winning, that is all we can do. Aldershot have some tough games left, but it doesnít matter what they do if we donít win outs.
We need to concentrate on Yeovil and get 3 more points. During the post match interview, not TC, but someone doing the interview said ďYeovil are really a football league clubĒ. Nope, they got relegated along with all the other ďfootball league clubsĒ in the National League.

Yes, I remember Coalville being 18 points clear. We have got a real chance of staying up and like yourself, I didnít think that would be the case at this point of the season.

As TW said in his post match interview, itís no good worrying about what Aldershot do, we have no control over that. We have 7 games (cup finals) left. Yeovil wonít be easy, but hopefully we will play as we did against Bromley and create enough chances. My only concern is that we donít score enough of them. Not so llong ago we were 15 or so points away from safety, our current form is very good and itís now 3 points.

Massive well done to the players tonight, that was a great result and performance. 7 huge games left, what a time to come into our current form. Another clean sheet too, well done to Omotoyo who played is part in defending. He has had many critics, me included, but he was awesome tonight. Big well done to TW too, he has always believed we will stay up and on tonightís performance, you can see why. If Aldershotís poor form continues and they have got some tough games left, then we have a real chance.

The Dover game was a Ďmust winí based on it being Dover. All remaining games are must win, if we are to avoid relegation. Bromley are a very good side, they have just booked their FA Trophy final at Wembley and with their forward, Cheek, they will be difficult opponents.
That fact that we beat Halifax shows that we are capable, so hopefully we can do the same against Bromley.

The fact that Aldershot lost, means we gained a point, but in all honesty I think it was a game we needed to win. We canít rely on Aldershot to keep losing, we have to look after ourselves and yesterday was an opportunity that we never took full advantage of. Aldershot can be overtaken, but it could be Weymouth who does it and not us, so for TW to say he is happy with a point is nonsense.
Never bringing a forward in has not helped our cause, I presume itís too late now, even for a loaner. In which case, we should recall Gyasi. We need an option on the bench, someone who could come on. Given Aldershot woeful form, we still have a chance, even if it is slim.

Probably not John, but hopefully those that do, will come away happy.

Agree Jenny, SC is in some sort of fantasy world when it comes to thinking we are capable of getting to league 1.
However, there are 3 teams in there now, who we used to play - Burton Albion, Cheltenham and Morecambe, seems a long time ago though.
I stated watching Lynn around 1970. The current level is something we couldnít have imagined after reforming, we did get some good fortune getting here, but who cares, we got here. For me, the disappointing thing is that we didnít strengthen the team, when it was clearly evident that we werenít scoring goals. We kept expecting a forward signing, but it never happened. Josh Barrett is a midfielder and currently our leading scorer. Shame that Joe Taylor wasnít brought in earlier on. I think he played just the once as a substitute, then was signed by Peterborough.
TW still has genuine belief that we can stay up and current form of ourselves, Aldershot and Weymouth are quite favourable. Aldershot are 7 points ahead and have a game in hand, but have only scored once in their last 6 games and gained just 1 point. We have gained 8 points from our last 6 games.
Hopefully we can get a win at Dover, but canít afford complacency and if Eastleigh can get at least a draw at Aldershot, then just maybe.
It would be a great shame to have only had 1 real season at this level. It does however cost a lot of money to be at this level and our attendances havenít been great, I wonder what they might have been if we had been comfortably in mid table.

SC said that getting to League 1 is the hardest thing, saying that once there we would hold our own or words to that effect. Well we got to the National League and now look, two seasons in relegation positions, last year didnít matter.
Of course this league has several ex league clubs, when they get relegated theyíre not good enough to go straight back up, this is a good league as Southend have found out. I admire his ambition and deserves credit, however this season hasnít seen the recruitment that was required.
We do still have a glamour of hope of staying up, but itís a tall order. TW has got the team playing better, so if we can keep our current form going and Aldershot and Weymouth continue to drop points, thereís a chance. We donít play on the last day of the season, that could be an advantage for them.
