Dilly, playing against second from bottom, whether home or away, you would hope for a more attacking approach. This is a game that we would hope to win, but we still need to respect Blyth and not be complacent.
I know you very much favour an attacking line up, but sometimes that isn’t always wise and you have to be able to defend against good sides. Our best performance to date, this season is our 1-0 win away at League 2 Doncaster. The result was great, the overall performance for 90 minutes was fantastic. Tommy’s starting 11 only had one forward, Ponticelli. Barrett is a midfielder, so that line up was defensively minded, but did exceptionally well.
But, I think we can afford to start with two forwards (Stephens and Charles) tomorrow. Imagine that Tommy Hughes will get some minutes too, I think he looks to be a good addition.

Reminiscent to Histon. Sports have done remarkably well to get to where they and everyone connected with the club should enjoy the moment, because unfortunately it isn’t likely to last too long with their attendances. I read on the Boston forum after our home win on Sunday, that although we have some quality players at this level, it probably isn’t sustainable. Have to agree with that, as our average home attendances are not enough.

On to Blyth after picking up maximum points over the Christmas period. With current league positions, it is a game where we can hopefully get a good result. Will of course need to be weary, as we know it doesn’t always go that way.
Assuming that Aaron Jones will be suspended and Omotayo out, still recovering from the injury on Sunday. How far away is Ponticelli from featuring?, hopefully it’s not too far away. Guess that means that Stephens and Charles are likely to start up front, which is ok mind.

WARNING.....sort out the away fans being allocated the main stand🤔
As a home supporter I don’t go along for the abuse and intimidation shown by the away section in my own stadium.....we got lucky in the national league with the Wrexham & Southend games which was on the verge of potential clashes...not just that but they use the tickets to then congregate at the bottom of the stand....IF I wanted to stand with the opposition I would buy a away ticket 😡
As a season ticket holder in Section B of the main stand I have to say we had no trouble with the Boston fans around Had a good conversation on and off all game
I don't want to be forced into giving up my seat there for only a few games of the season when the area would be populated by away fans
Had no trouble in the NL last saeason either. A little banter sometimes but no real aggro
It is probably fair to say, that away fans sitting are far less likely to be looking for trouble. The segregation where the fighting occurred needs to be greatly improved. The green netting could be replaced by something that doesn’t allow you past.

**** poor segregation, today was a situation that was going to happen sooner or later. Lessons need to be learnt and fast, especially if we were to gain promotion. Two sets of alcohol fuelled so called football fans giving abuse to each other, with a 15 metre gap separating them.
Seriously, why would the stewards want to intervene and to get punched and kicked. Unfortunately, the trouble is what will be remembered most from todays game. It was even brought up by the guy talking to TW in the post match interview.

I’m sure JB will start today Dilly. He had a good game at Boston and I totally agree with you, he certainly deserves his starting place on his current form.
Ponticelli seems to have been out for ages, it will be good to have him back soon. Mallard, I hope your score prediction comes true, I would take any win. Hopefully, we start the game on the front foot and dominate possession. Happy New Year to all and hopefully we get a winning start to the new year.

Nothing is guaranteed (otherwise we wouldn’t have lost to Farsley Celtic or Kettering) but you’d think we could beat Boston Utd so you’d hope the game went ahead as three more points would put pressure on other teams. Another game in hand doesn’t help.
Doug, you’re right that nothing is guaranteed and yes, based on league positions and home advantage, you may be forgiven for thinking it’s a home win. I think all that counts for little when it’s a local derby. Boston had their chances the other day, so I’m expecting a close game.
Will be good to see IC back at the Walks, after all, it was him who got us to the National League, I hope he gets the warm reception that deserves.
I’m assuming Ponticelli is still out, although we may have a new player in the team, maybe not to start the game though. Hopefully the last time we play Boston for a while.

Interestingly TW’s full time team is 3 points worse off than IC’s part time teams after 19 games when we last played at this level.   Mind IC had Marriot and Gash up top.
I think the majority would agree, that our current number 9 isn’t a patch on Marriott, albeit he was number 10.
Whilst we have the players we have, we have to back them and Tommy’s judgement.

At the beginning of the season most on here thought we would finish mid table. Because we've started so well and now have had a couple of games under par people think its going pear shape. This happens in the season. We still have games in hand. I'm happy with the way things are going at the moment. Yes we can improve and the games in hand can put us back on track. Don't give up. :scarf:

Anton, over all the football is much more pleasing on the eye than last season. Most teams will have blips and if you’re going to lose, then it’s better to do do against a team down the bottom, rather than the top. With a fully fit squad, we should, on what I’ve seen, be capable of a play off place, we would have took that at the start of the season. We play some really good football at times, so I’m certainly not giving up. I’ve watched Lynn for over 50 years and have seen some dire times, but never given up.

Why was it a shock that we lost at Farsley. We are not the team some people think we are. I don’t normally fully agree with Dilly’s posts, which are basically go all out attack, but not sharing with Charles was surprising. Even though we were away, it was to the second from bottom team who had conceded 37 goals. They are there for a reason. Barrett is a midfielder, not a forward, so we started with just one recognised forward.
Until Stephens and Ponticelli are back and fully fit, Charles should surely be partnering Omotayo from the start. Losing to Farsley isn’t the end of the world, there’s a long way to go.
As for bringing in a forward, I think if that was going to happen it would have done by now. Personally, just start with two (KC and GO) that we have.

General Discussion / Re: Hereford Utd

The stevenage game was a one off.
Everyone was talking about it, the biggest game for years, not many would have not realised the ko time.  With so much football on telly,  the world Cup, and the match not getting anywhere near the build up there was for stevenage one, people could have overlooked the ko time.
I know of some that did.
Granted, it was a ‘one off’ game. The problem is though, two thirds and more ‘Lynn fans’ weren’t interested enough to attend a league game a week later. That is something that the club (PR) need to work on. Irrespective to kick off time, under 1000 fans was disappointing, didn’t expect anywhere near what we got for Stevenage, but 1400 + should have been achievable. As for not knowing the kick off time v Hereford, well unfortunate, but it was made known some tome ago and on the website. I’m guessing though, it wasn’t a significant number though.
Anyway, I hope the attendances improve. Last week, someone told me how much one of the players (name was given) is on a week. I doubt they’re all on that, but you start to get an idea of the team wages and our current average attendance, wouldn’t make that sustainable.
Last season, we were getting outnumbered by away supporters. Tommy often says the Lynn fans are great and yes, we are, there just isn’t enough of us.

I think kick-off time put quite a few off yesterday.
And some had forgotten it was early ko.
All but 15 minutes, it was the same time as the Stevenage game, so I don’t think it was the early kick off time. Personally, I quite like the early kick off time, although it’s not ideal for away supporters. The attendances need to improve, because we can’t survive at this level, with a full time team.

Surely Tommy has enough connections to be able to bring a loaner in to fill the void on a months loan.
If Tommy had those sort of connections, we wouldn’t have got relegated last season. We were in dire need of a goal scorer, he brought in midfielders. I was impressed with Charles today, so for me, he should start. Him and Omotayo up front, until the others are fit. Good that we still have that option, but if Tommy could bring a forward in, then so much the better.

I'd be very surprised if Tommy hasn't got the connections to bring in the players that he wants.

I would guess that it's more down to lack of funds being made available to him if it doesn't happen.
Last season Tommy brought in, was it 7 or 8 players, so he had the funds then, but he didn’t get a forward. I’m not too concerned about our forward line, I feel Charles and Omotoyo will be ok and Stephens could be back in a couple of weeks. However, if promotion through be champions is our aim and I’m sure it is, then having extra cover would only be a good thing. We are blessed with being able to score goals not just from our forwards after all. The thing that is quite concerning however, was yesterdays attendance. There were over 3000 Lynn fans there for the Stevenage game, so to get less than 1000 yesterday is not at all good.
