General Discussion / Re: Rushall Olympic.

I noticed that there was no KLTV over on the scaffold tower yesterday - mind you I would not have volunteered for that duty in the 2nd half especially.

Daryl was at the game yesterday, but filmed from the Main Stand. Can’t blame him in those conditions.

I think the 3-0 scoreline was perhaps harsh on Rushall, but for them it was a story of what we have been guilty of so many times this season at home. There were less chances for us than against Bedworth/Rushden/Ashton in recent games but we took them. Rushall created a lot of chances but didn’t take them through a mixture of wayward shooting and some good saves from Pedro. Key moment in the game was their lad missing a one on one with Pedro to equalise, to us going straight up the other end and winning a penalty to make it 2-0 a minute before the break.

Interesting to see Kettering signing yet another forward who played yesterday, yet they are leaking an awful lot of goals of late (4 v Redditch, 3 v St Ives and another 4 v Banbury).

Admittedly my optimism got the better of me and thought we’d score 3 or 4 today. Yes the team with the new lads in needs to gel. Sadly today nobody stood out against a team that defended doggedly and gave us no time on the ball in the final third all afternoon.

Despite their result today (4-0 win) I actually fancy us to get something at Leiston on Tuesday night as they’re unlikely to sit-in against us for 90 minutes and I think that will suit us better going forward.

Looking at Histon’s position and team, I would say they are probably a level below where they should be.

One thing both Neil and Backie have on their side is how well respected they are by players and supporters alike. That was very much in evidence off the back of last night’s team performance. Both have also been in and around the club for long enough to know how to play most if not all of the squad to it’s strengths. I would imagine for some players it was a confidence thing and last night’s performance has doubtlessly restored some of that.

I am surprised that each newspaper doesn’t buy thier reporter a season ticket.

Charging reporters to get in would surely be a PR disaster? The hospitality works both ways and we did have a BBC Cambridgeshire reporter covering St Neots at Saturday’s game.

Would that also mean that local newspapers have to buy season tickets for their reporters for every other sporting team they cover?

Paul, at a guess I would assume both clubs weren’t happy and lodged complaints when their payments arrived. A valid question of do “free” tickets count towards the attendance maybe?

If we had overcharged for kids on the day or offered a different deal for away fans then I could understand. I am also assuming both Slough and Weymouth would have advertised our admission prices to their supporters before the play off games given the high levels of interest there would have been, so yes they would have known about this in advance.

When the boot’s been on the other foot in recent years (Deeping Rangers and AFC Wimbledon away spring to mind), neither the respective leagues nor FA were interested.

It feels like greed from both clubs and the Southern League.

I attended a similar tournament in Jersey a few years back. Celtic U-23s were one of the sides and I have to say I was surprised by the popularity of the matches. Springfield Stadium is a similar size to The Walks and looked fairly full.

So Robbo is there no back up to yourself ? if you couldn't make a game for whatever reason would there be no announcer ?

Remember Mark Hearle covering games previously, but apparently he's on holiday?

Yes, it is normally Mark. Before his holiday we had arranged between the two of us to cover all of the pre season home games, just unfortunate circumstances around last night’s game. I did contact the club but like with my own situation there clearly wasn’t enough time to arrange alternative cover.

Thanks for the Info Mike.  Maybe the Media dept at The walks will give us a run down on who was on show last night.

I can’t speak for the Media team but from a PA perspective I was working and the rearrangement of the fixture came at too short notice for me. I will be back for tomorrow’s game and will try and pass on as much player information as I can.
