General Discussion / Re: Ticketing prices

We need to make sure if it is the play offs for us we get those all important home ties.

Important from a cash point of view but in terms of footballing advantage, I'm not so sure. 3 Southern League play offs at home as KLFC, vs Redditch, Chippenham and Maidenhead = 3 defeats.

The play off games are always going to be a lottery. If memory serves me correctly we did a league  double over Chippenham that season then lost in the play offs. Whether we are home or away you must win two ďmust winĒ games, the only other thing the club has to gain is financially from a home tie or two.

I went to the Hitchin v Hungerford semi final a couple of seasons ago, over 2,000 fans there.

As for taking on the media task in your place maybe someone like Greg Plummer should be courted as he far greater experience than you or Mark, and certainly Me.  Can I leave that one for you to make the contact ?

Not doubting Gregís experience and abilities as a reporter. Heís certainly been reporting on the club in local press for as long as I can remember, but with the greatest of respect would he want the role? In his current position his reporting interests extend to far more than just KLTFC, and as a result I still doubt he would be able to make every game, particularly away from home, due to his other commitments.

As for the experience levels of the current media team, experience can only be gained from actually doing the job and learning whilst doing it. Iíve read some of Chrisís match reports in the YLP which have generally been of a good, detailed standard. I personally feel that development and enthusiasm in a media/reporting role should be encouraged, that includes learning from mistakes.

General views around volunteering. I know Paul Hampson has recently returned to the club to film games again. After Paul stood down before we really struggled as a club to find anybody willing to do this. We had a couple of people come in, cover a game or two, then not come back. I tried to help out by filming interviews by Setch and later Ian to put online, purely with the view that providing something was better than providing nothing, but received criticism for doing so.

This document on the non league matters forum will help give you some idea.

http://goo.gl/MW6EFU

Itís based on current league position and assumes the highest placed club in each league wins the play offs, but if we go into the Central Premier it would suggest a lot less travelling next season.

At least we had the score throughout the game, and the final score. I can remember when you had to wait days to get the result from an away game. I don't agree with everything at the club, but this insignificant blip is no big deal really.

The year we won the Eastern League having to exchange numbers with fans of our rivals as the only way was to keep each other updated by text. I remember the Hospital End going mental on our penultimate league game when breaking the news Eastleigh were beating Tonbridge, then Histon won and it went to the final day.

Really Robbo? You think that would do any good?
When the club needed a second media guy where was that job advertised?
When they needed a new guy on the tannoy, where was that advertised?
Jobs for the boys and the old pals act, simple as.

Canít remember a formal advert for the PA job, but it was well documented by the club that Alistair Cox was stepping down from the role. I contacted the club and offered to volunteer. I also didnít know Mark Hearle personally at the time. I know Alistair left some big shoes to fill, and Iím probably not to everybodyís taste but Iím proud to work for the club, enjoy what I do and try to be professional in my role.

I think thatís a little unfair to say he was ďlet down by his understudyĒ.

For the Tiverton game Markís ďunderstudyĒ was left without transport late on Friday because the person originally taking him let him down. The team and other officials had already departed on Friday afternoon. This meant he was left with the option of a £90 return train fare on the Saturday. Contrary to what people on this forum seem to think, that would have come out of his own pocket.

For Gosport away, he had already started two trips before the game being called off upon reaching London, when the game was played he was in hospital so unable to attend. Whether you know Yvonne or not, most fans were grateful to her covering the game on Twitter, but received personal criticism from a few for her efforts, so why should she bother again in the future?

Mark has already said that communication could be improved, the Siddons loan recently highlighted that. Nobody in the clubís media team was made aware before he was named in the Spalding team, then they had to ring around to gather the correct information, otherwise itís speculation rather than fact.

What should also be pointed out is that things have changed since Ian took over from Setch. Itís no longer ďAccess all areasĒ for the media team prior to games to avoid any unnecessary distractions for the players. Not a criticism, just different methods that people have had to get used to.

There was an article over the weekend about a non league club folding because all the volunteers had walked away. Not just talking about the media team but there is a lot of work done by volunteers on a match day. Iím not suggesting things are that serious, but think of what else the club could do if people were as quick to volunteer as they were to criticise individuals.

Iím sure lessons have been learned from Saturday, so time to move on. One team one dream and all that.

Yes must be from the club as they have a good relationship with EDP according to the chairman.
This follows on from a similar mistake the club's media made last week maybe the chairman will change his stance from lazy journalism to incompetent journalism.
And to think these guys get in, eat and drink for free when the real supporters are expected to pay £12 and over the top prices for food and drink.

Iím pretty sure the club would be grateful if you offered to volunteer if youíre not happy with the clubís media coverage?

Do they eat and drink for free?  :dontknow:

I donít!

If only people were as quick to volunteer as they were to moan.

Very true. We could have got the Banbury captain to roll the pitch for us the amount of time he spent laying on it!

Also, Clunanís booking was for a foul in the first half. It was Gash booked for dissent in the second half when appealing for a corner.

My stopwatch was already a couple of minutes over time when we got the notification about 5 minutes added. We did play to exactly 50 minutes in the second half, could have maybe argued the case for an additional minute given that we scored in stoppage time. Banbury can have no complaints about that though, the referee made it clear more than once during their ďstoppagesĒ that she was adding the time on. Their manager more than once shouted at their players to stay down.

Given that the assistant on the nearside spoke to their manager two or three times about his behaviour, I was surprised that at no point did the referee get involved.

It will have to be treated as two separate incidents. However it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the referee had abandoned the game yesterday because of it.
