General Discussion / Re: Hughes gone.

I don’t want to be negative but why do folk continually hark back to Setch, Marriott etc. etc.  Somehow, we need to move forward and put the past behind us. Not easy, but let’s all give it a go.

I have to say that before the season started I was saying we’d struggle at the wrong end of the table and, sadly, this looks like the case. If we can stay up then, unless something radical changes, that’s the best we can hope for whilst looking to build for 2024-2025.

Hello folks...  I was trying to be realistic rather than optimistic but will be very happy to stand corrected. It was not my intention to be pessimistic. Looking at last season (possibly not a good indicator, who knows?) a bunch of teams seemed to progress well in the second half of the year - the likes of Buxton and Kidderminster etc. whereas we started to struggle somewhat. So while I appreciate we have a really good nucleus it's imperative we have a squad where others can come in as needed and be of the same standard. That's my concern. Anyway...time will tell and I'd be delighted if we do have the players to see us in the top half plus...

Sadly, I have to agree with aome of the previous comments, i.e. that some of our signings don’t seem to be of NLN standard. Worrying times…. As for the Heacham striker - perhaps he plays tonight but a potential player for us?  How could you go from Heacham FC to, say, playing Scunthorpe Utd?!

OK. I'm pleased to see the news signings...they sound pretty reasonable so fingers crossed.

Good choice…he’ll do well as Captain.

All quiet yet again on new signings. Surely this can’t be good?  Only a month to the new season and we look light on players, yet alone players of NLN standard.

Greetings all…
As I said a few weeks ago, I fear for next season and nothing so far has changed my view. As supporters we all back the Club regardless…but players departing and not being replaced is a real worry. I can’t see any way we’re going to be at the top yet alone pushing for a play-off place. Just staying in the NLN could be the best we can hope for. I hate being pessimistic and remain hopeful I’m wrong but we’re not far off July and the seeming lack of activity is concerning. It may well be that a lot is going on behind the scenes but you would think by now that the better players we need have been grabbed by other teams.

I’m starting to fear for us next season. Just missing out this year provides no guarantees for 2023-2024. Already key players have departed and I’m guessing more will go. Will we get quality replacements?  I have my doubts currently. MH is, I suspect, on a learning curve. That’s fair enough and understandable but does he have the right sort of contacts to pull in players we need?  My worry is that we will not be fighting for a play-off place next season but actually will be trying to avoid relegation. I sincerely hope I’m wrong…but things, to me, seem to more in that direction. I’m usually optimistic but nothing, to date, gives me hope. Someone tell me I’m wrong!!

Well…we were, in all honesty, well beaten. We didn’t pressure their goal sufficiently and looked vulnerable at the back. We just have to accept it and rebuild for next season. Not a lot else I can say…

Has Cosgrave left?

I’m with Rod. Hopeful but a bit anxious. If we play the way we can, don’t get anyone sent off for something crazy then we have to believe we’re capable of winning. Sadly, I can’t be there but will be watching via National League TV. All being well, my nails will be intact still by the end of the game!

Don’t know what happened to Morrell but the enforced extra striker in Stephens is, in my view, a bonus.
