I think you guys are onto something here....obviously the room names need changing to reflect a football club.......changing room, officials room, boardroom, showers, VIP lounge etc Not sure if the old lead piping could stay, but most of the other objects need replacing...suggest rope by scarf and there might be a case for a football rattle, team key fob and the 1970/80s match day hot tea I guess. Think the characters names need to reflect the global reach of the club these days, to reflect the investment opportunities........I will put forward the name of Gus from Sparta.

Could just do with a third striker now as back up when one of Gold or Margetts are sidelined. 139

Very excited by this. We have a dedicated winger to supply the crosses and we have a goal poacher playing alongside Gold...should be a good recipe.

Yes, I was thinking that......and the green away strip too. Still it's a newish look for a new season. Being a bit of a traditionalist, I would always go for an old fashioned blue and gold first strip and a predominantly gold with a dab of blue away strip.........but then I am getting old and still prefer the style of football played with heavier mitre balls, less than perfect pitches, an understandable offside rule and a referee whose decision was final who had no care for VAR ![]() ![]() ![]() 141
General Discussion / Re: Incoming« on: July 01, 2024, 08:09:00 PM »Connor Hall signs for Brackley. That feels like a "biggy" and Brackley are assembling one heck of a squad. AL stated that Hall had his bags packed ready to come in the Winter and it fell through at the very last minute, I seem to remember. Shame...I was hoping for a Margetts, Hall, Gold attack. I do feel we need a really potent attack to take the heat off the defence........hopefully there are a few recognised goalscorers still out there for us to nab. 142

I can't see a negative post on this thread Linnet....just natural speculation about what might happen, which is what fans do. Think you are being over defensive...you and Mr Hill. Think we need more positive and open discussion......who would you like us to sign Linnet...how about you Mr Hill, what are your thoughts on the squad and what you hope for over the next ten months ? 143

So, what's people's verdict so far on the squad ? Not long now till training commences. Looks like a midfielder still to join and possibly a forward. I did wonder whether Alfie Bates from Brackley , would be joining, as he had left his club, but now apparently has "had a change of heart" (I guess modern day parlance for things didn't work out with potential new club), so he has rejoined Brackley.
My view is the current squad, with a new midfielder and a target man is similar to what we had at the end of last season. Much may depend on how prolific the target man and Margetts are. Very difficult to call at this stage, but I am still concerned about the lack of pace in the back line, when someone like Ashley Hemmings is running free. I would go for about mid table, for next season,on balance. 144

Widdrington, Scott, Barrett, Hargreaves,Jones.....all in a side that finished second to Fylde, who then had to make wholesale changes to their squad to stay in the NL. Will be interesting to see how things turn out for the Shots.....

I was encouraged to hear Mr Hill has purchased a season ticket, with a number over 200- hopefully that's from a book just for the coming season. Would be good if the club could tell us how many season tickets have been sold to date. Many of our league rivals are boasting record season ticket sales and new sponsorship deals from local businesses, which must be encouraging for their fans. With Lynn there is always so little info given out, that I regularly end up wondering what is really going on behind the scenes and whether the club will be financially viable going forward.

This is the most important time of the season......for building a squad ......AND for building fan participation and allegiance and for getting local business on board.
Unfortunately it's the same old same old.............presumably there will be the usual complaints about crowd numbers as the season progresses ![]() ![]() ![]() 147

So two months till the opening day and around two weeks before training starts (he said, trying to whip up some enthusiasm in the absence of much coming out of the club). Still feels like quite a lot of business to be done.

Just strange that Sports announce he has left, the local Peterborough paper announces he has gone to Lynn, but the Lynn club don't announce it till after.......

Seems to take a long while between a player giving notice of leaving a club and then finally being announced these days....is it the paperwork, agents ?
Two other possibles, I guess are Alfie Bates, midfielder Brackley (left Brackley a good few days ago now) and as previously mentioned McCammon at Sports. I wonder if we will renew our interest in Connor Hall and also look at getting the two loanees again from Fleetwood ? 150
General Discussion / Re: Season tickets« on: June 01, 2024, 11:04:45 AM »
For me, season ticket sales are a true measure of where a club is at. Any club, ultimately is just its fans....owners come and go. This is where the emphasis has to be , in building a club and connecting with the community. For as long as I can remember, Lynn's fan attendance has been erratic.......many only there if the club is doing well or for the big games. Hoping to build the club on the basis of throw money at it, get it promoted and the fans will come to see a successful team is short termism. You need a solid base in terms of fan and commercial support before setting off. I am a little surprised that so far there have been no new initiatives announced to encourage fans in or to get them on board. If SC is to be believed, that the club was in real financial trouble last term, then he must realise that Joe's input will only last so long too.
It really is high time that someone sat back, looked at revenues and came up with an inventive incentive to get people on board IMO. If this club was selling 500 season tickets a year, with all the spin offs from fan involvement that that could create and was able to have a boost the budget scheme which brought in £50k from fans, and had good commercial sponsorship, then with money that owners had to throw in too, the club might be in with a chance of competing at the next level. Without that, I personally don't think there's much chance of progression. |
