I'm with you Grissles....shame there hasn't been more fun and positivity on here recently, together with genuine debate about current footballing matters. The Forum does seem to have been a bit of a place to air past unresolved grievances and upsets of late...but when you point it out there is always a quick post reply in an attempt to defend it. I suppose we should be very grateful that the Forum exists at all, so credit to the Trust for that, but personally I do wish that people were able to embrace the current together with the future possibilities, more, in whatever guise that takes, as I suspect there may never be a return to how things were in the supposed "good old days".

Pink think you find the shop in Prince of Wales Road is closed.  :laughcry:

In some ways we can’t keep harping back to the ‘Good Ole Days’ with Leonard Sachs on the hammer.  No good us having a monthly bingo or Tombola  to pull in a few notes.  Those days have gone.  We have a Club with an annual 7 figure running costs with debts on the book to match.  These events are not going to scratch the surface.    We need to thinking big time.  £100k profit events 2/3 times a season.

On the flip side no harm. In looking at other aspects of the Club that have worked for us.  Part time playing module needs to work again with the right manager.  People in place like Robbie Back (excuse the pun) is Back on the tiller again.  It worked before, would do again.   Overnight stays.  Achieved sod all this season.  Another cost saving.  Go back to the way he had it.

Now you tell me Mall.......just returned from POW Road.........it's now either a kebab shop or  a lap dancing venue....I couldn't quite remember which building........anyways they don't take the stamps at either venue apparently  :laughcry: :laughcry:

Here, here to the rest of the post. Owners often
prefer , it seems to me, new ideas that they can modify and put their name to or call their own...and they also seem to prefer a small number of big earners to get their teeth into.

I’m with you Pink I feel it will be someone with no natural affliction to the Club.  Just hope SC gets this one right.  I just hope he can find the right fit for the Club and indeed for himself.

As for the Club going tits up, I do wonder what the future holds.  Is SC going to pull back and hope a White Knight can save the day or will it slowly fall into a big black hole.   Maybe at some point that’s what it will take to get all the debt wiped away and a clean fresh start under new owners.   Someone in the David Newton mould would work for me.  Successful, astute, well respected in the local business community and with the fans.   Ring any bells ?

Get saving Pink your time may come

Searching out my green shield stamp book collection ready for redemption at this very moment Mall 😀😀😀

They also have a very capable commercial side and I think they had sponsors booked for most, if not all, fixtures for the season before the season started.  That isn't something that happens overnight and takes years of building relationships with all sizes businesses

Tony, i can recall a time when we also enjoyed a similar level of sponsorship support, which i am sure Gordon can confirm!

Please don't go round in circles with this again.......we need new initiatives, not more lamenting on what was there in the past and is now lost.

My prediction is that it will be someone who hasn't managed Lynn before......certainly hope that is the case.

I can't see Setchell at the helm during the remainder of SC's tenure. When the time does come for SC to move on, I can see it being passed to someone with similar ambitions for the club.

Even if the club were to go belly up, I suspect the Council may prefer another entrepreneur to a fan based model, as they did before.

I am both disappointed for Hughes and for the club........dreadful timing.........just when the manager realises he needs to offload a misfiring forward line......he is gone. I was optimistic that changes would lead to improved fortunes....now that may not happen

I don’t want to be negative but why do folk continually hark back to Setch, Marriott etc. etc.  Somehow, we need to move forward and put the past behind us. Not easy, but let’s all give it a go.

The best post on here for the last month.

Come on guys give it a go........no more references to the past and the supposed good old days and I will also add, no more slagging off of the current regime.......try it for a week......you might be surprised how good and liberated you feel.

So who are these players he wants to move on ??
His summer purchases or  players of old ?
Tbh Barrett on his day is best in the league but that’s every few and far games ,for as many games he has won us with goals and vision,I say how many has he cost us with lack of movement/tracking back etc ,I say he’s a luxury player that we can’t afford to keep playing ‘because it’s josh’  we’re in for a long battle this season so we’re going to need players to dig deep , trouble is isnt just him but 3/4 others .

The fear is that players will be moved on due to the cost of wages, and not (lack of) ability.

A squad without Barrett, Stephens, Ponts?  :dontknow:

I personally think that's what needs to happen....and not just for cost reasons...the whole attacking midfield and forward line seems to have gone stale. Those 3 are the most experienced and they have undoubted quality, but Lynn need to score to win games and those guys just aren't doing it.....what have they scored between them in the first 11 games.....something like 4/5 goals between all 3 of them...nowhere near enough IMHO

Then who will replace them?

The next thing would probably be gates declining further.

For example I can't see people happy to pay 20 odd quid to watch loads of Academy players.

I would hope that the 3 wages saved, plus any transfer fees would fund a good goalscorer at this level

Hmmm ......why do I sense a meagre offer may be made. Bit like a game of chess. If Lynn turn down the offer, what might the next move be....any guesses🙂

Does anyone have any info on Adam Crowther .?........seems to be a long term injury.....he's obviously a big miss.

Defence only conceded one today.......clearly lack of goals is the major concern. 14 wins plus a few draws in a season sees you safe...so far 1 win in 10 in the league.

First meaningful effort in the 86th minute.

For me it just shows how much reliance there was, in an attacking sense, in some of those that left.

Very little attacking threat at the moment.

If the club is short of cash, paying off the manager isn't really an option....there will be even less in the kitty or more on the debt.

If we could exchange Barrett, Stephens and Ponticelli for one recognized goalscorer, I personally would do it.......but given their form , it's probably not possible.

Not sure, also if it's possible to go to a hybrid/part time model part way through a season.......but the club is in a pickle, so some thinking outside of the box may be required.

Lynn have scored 10 goals in 10 games...........and only 2 goals away going into Monday's replay.

Guess he is still looking........

On paper a decent enough result for Lynn's young side.

However, same old problem, no regular goalscorers in the side, so another blank today.

Now an away trip to Aveley followed by the long trip to Warrington......just what they didn't need.

Bit of pressure now...2 tough fixtures...

Attendance a bit of a wake up call too......570 or thereabouts

General Discussion / Re: Managers comments
« on: September 10, 2023, 06:17:12 PM »
Hughes is a young, inexperienced Manager. Both the club hierarchy and supporters knew that at the time he was appointed. Everyone knew he would be learning the ropes as the season progressed.

Budget had been confirmed as being less than it was last season (not just speculation).

Probably the toughest job in NLN.

Maybe he needs assistance (i.e. an experienced DoF) and a bit more time.

As someone has already mentioned, we don’t know what his brief is. Maybe it was just to avoid relegation this season.

If so, it’s likely that he’s capable of doing that.

Unless there’s a big wad of money to bring a big name Manager in, what’s the point of changing, just to get more of the same, albeit with a different name on the Managers door?

Hear, hear. I hope the players knuckle down and prove they are good enough over the coming weeks.

Hughes seems a genuine guy who has been given a really difficult task as his first senior management position.

I think SC would be foolish to even think of replacing him at this stage.

I am sure the true fans are still behind him and hoping he can turn it around. This is the time for the town to be hopeful and supportive. The budget constraints mean things have to be built up and that takes time, whoever is in charge.

Provided the fans stay behind him and the team, I think he will do fine......but if the crowd start to turn at this time, they could just be putting the club in a deeper hole.
