General Discussion / Re: Is there anybody there?
« on: May 20, 2023, 10:40:30 AM »
This is exactly the type of thing that needs addressing NOW. It’s no good bleating on about poor attendances and lack of interest once the season kicks off or even at upcoming friendlies ……it’s a two way street. Discussions may be protracted and ongoing , but at least keep supporters in the loop as much as possible………there should be at least one post on the Twitter account per day with an update….how difficult is that to organise ? Already gives the impression that nothing is going to change….when loads needs to. On many levels I am very appreciative of what SC has done for the club, but building the club from a spectator and commercial aspect surely has to happen now, if the club has serious aspirations of going anywhere.

What chance a merger in the future to form KIng’s Lynn and Peterborough Sports FC ? Apply for grant funding for a Community Sports Centre, to include the football ground, approx 10 miles west of Lynn ?

As long as they don’t move the goalposts halfway through a season, it’s fine. Same rules apply to all.
Just because some don’t approve it doesn’t make it wrong or unacceptable either.

You’re welcome to your view of “it’s fine” but it’s just your view….and I am entitled to mine that it’s very definitely not……and I guess there will be those that support both stances……..to my mind just because a rule is there, doesn’t change and is the same for all doesn’t mean that is ok. Questioning rules is healthy sometimes.
It's not "just my view" as you state. It's other people's as well. Nobody questioned that you were entitled to an opinion. Of course you are. Everyone can have an opinion, even Sovereign Citizens.
Some think its right, some think its wrong, some think its acceptable, some think it's unacceptable.

Sovereign Citizens can as you say have an opinion, but being a U.S. derived term, it’s unlikely they would be interested in little old Lynn……..Wrexham maybe !

Would you all be saying the same had we won the play offs?
I don't think so.
It's how the league works, not just ours but most of them.
We didn't turn up for the play off game, and that's not anyone else's fault.
We had an excellent opportunity with home advantage in both potential games and blew it. Sour grapes won't alter the fact.
Go again next season. We know the format and that won't change.

quite agree with you Jesus; there is the question of a new manager for the kiddies that motivated that team, giving Hughes the chance to motivate the linnets for the next season; still being full-time will probably see at least 60% of our players staying with us; considering the loss at Buxton with going down to 9 men and calls for discipline in the ranks, then being shoddy against both games against Farsley that were our nemesis. Next season is all about tenacity drive and above all, discipline and sheer guts and determination beat the lower teams as "Cobra Kai" motive "no mercy" is our motto for next season; winning those games against bottom clubs will see us through next season as automatic champion; there is possibly one team that might test is Scunthorpe

Nice thought Joss, but probably not very realistic………Chester, Hereford and Scunthorpe to contend with……all have a much bigger fan base .

It was a one off game but Kidderminster on the day were a class apart. Added to which i don't believe we currently have an off field operation that is capable of sustaining even a mid table position in NL.

I quite agree Rod…….we are miles off being a significant NL presence

Go again next season doing the same will just produce the same disappointment.

My comment wasn’t sour grapes at all……..I would have the same stance for any club in that situation.

Fact is it’s a lottery at play off stage and you need things to go your way, which fortunately Notts County did have otherwise they too would have been let down by the system.

However, as you say, it is what it is………and what it means is  that unless you are one of the best funded clubs in the league, you should forget about top spot and aim for doing well in the play offs………and how that is supposed to translate into fan interest and attendance between August and March, I am not really sure. Certainly for me a big disincentive. Just because it “is” doesn’t make it right or acceptable.

How can it be deserved when they finish 24 points behind top teams whats tyhe point in having a league.
I totally agree with you GS50. ProMotion via a play off should never have replaced automatic promotion, but instead should have provided 1 additional promotion. I do wish Kidderminster well in the National League, I just don’t think the current NLN play off system is correct and would like to see the top two go up automatically, with the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th go into play offs. That old mean more teams being relegated from the NL to accommodate.
We got to the NL and because of covid, we were given a ‘free’ season, but if anything was learnt, it didn’t show because we got relegated in our second season. That is the really disappointing thing, because it’s so hard to get back.
I’ve watched Lynn since the late 60’s, but do feel very much like you GS, what is the point in playing 46 games and after that you may have to play a team that finished more than 20 points above, or below you to decide a promotion spot. I won’t be watching Lynn next season to the same extent I did this season, unless the play off structure changes.

Totally agree…makes a mockery of a long hard season……….and the opportunity to really progress almost discarded whilst in the NL during that second season.it’s hugely difficult getting out of this league.

The current structure encourages teams to start the season with an average line up and then reassess at Christmas, bring some significant signings in and then look to build towards the playoffs with the emphasis on the last 3 games. The attraction of a top two clash anytime before February has gone…it’s now meaningless part way through the season, so where’s the incentive for the fans ? I hear Hughes say he wants to emulate last season’s great start…but why…it’s irrelevant….what he needs to emulate is Kiddie’s great finish.

General Discussion / Fylde Director of Football Interview

There is a very interesting interview if you visit AFC Fylde’s Twitter page re the challenges of NLN and NL. Interesting also to compare their well funded set up with that of Lynn. Just shows what a tremendous effort by all at Lynn to come so very close.

A lot on here are making a big deal about the under par performance v Kiddie……but it was just one game….and there’s the rub…in the end the most important game of the season after all the 50 odd that went before…

Personally I wasn’t surprised…long hard season of 46 games plus a Cup run and won 6/7 on the bounce previously in pursuit of Fylde with a limited squad, many of whom were carrying knocks or were just coming back to fitness having been out for ages…….I think they were just spent…..Kiddie on the other hand are having their best spell of the season at the right time.

The club and the fans need to smell the coffee…more often than not you get nothing for being second in this league after 46 long hard games with all the travel…..so maybe aspiring to be top or only turning up to watch if Lynn are top three , during the first six months of the season , makes less sense than in days gone by, now that it’s just one automatic promotion place and playoffs

The speed and the tenacity in the current squad is perhaps something that was there earlier in the season before Theo, Cam,etc all got long term knocks

Really hope everyone has sat down and had a mature chat about what is possible at the club. If Lynn go off half-cocked hoping for a similar first 6 months to last campaign then I think it could be disastrous. Last season happened for a reason……it should show SC that realistically we are unlikely to win this league. We couldn’t win it last term with TW and a full time squad, many of whom were from the National League squad. We wouldn’t have won it under IC without COVID cutting the season short. There are several bigger , better financed full time outfits who come the turn of the year will put their hands in their pockets, add 6/7 top quality players to their squad and one of them will is likely to win the league…just as Fylde did this year and York would have done back in IC’s day.

The next 2/3 seasons must be about securing financial backing for the club. Lynn can still look forward to a decent Cup run in one of the competitions and a top half finish-hopefully a play off place with a decent run towards the end, perhaps helped by holding back a bit of money for a key loanee if the time is right. Just feel Lynn need to be a bit more savvy and considered in their operations.

If Gold goes (would prefer if he stayed) would like to see more emphasis on speed in the side…….a forward line with people like Stephens, Cosgrave, Sherriff and even Charles…………….and good pace in the two centre back positions to avoid needing 3centre halves and a covering defensive midfielder every game.

A bit disappointed personally with the goal return from Ponticelli and Barrett this term……I know they have assisted loads, but for their standard I feel they should have registered far more often…….wouldn’t be surprised if they were to leave.

General Discussion / Re: Kidderminster it is
« on: May 08, 2023, 12:43:17 PM »
Overwhelming feeling having slept on it is disappointment, not so much for the result as Kidderminster were comfortably the better side on the day but the fact that we couldn't find a way to compete.  Much has been made of Hughes' inexperience in not changing a winning a side or the changes made during the game but ultimately we were lacking all over the pitch so could have made a case for any of the subs being introduced and/or lots of changes in formation, says a lot that the (undisputed) MotM is the goalie in 4-1 defeat

Looking forward, I just hope SC draws breath and before worrying about individual player's future or what management team is in place he has a clear plan for the club off field as that has to be stepped up and work in tandem with the football side

I console myself Tony, with the thought that , on reflection , having a good Cup run, finishing second and not getting promoted, is actually the best result for the club overall. Until we have regular home crowds of 2,000 plus, an active supporters club and significant connections with and sponsorship from , local business we are nowhere near ready to compete in the NL. To those that say that will never happen….then we will never be ready to go up.

Realistically for the next few years, it is in my opinion , sheer folly to attempt to win direct promotion from the NLN…….there is only one direct promotion space and many teams with bigger budgets. Much better to build the off field business up, whilst targeting a good Cup/Trophy run and a mid table position which could possibly turn into a scraped playoff place as a bonus.

The fans do prefer local players and managers, but obviously those good enough for the level may be in short supply. However, some good canny dealing could be had by looking at teams relegated from NLS and NLN who have the odd stand out…eg Sherriff at Kettering could be worth a consideration
