General Discussion / Re: Lynn lose away.
« on: August 19, 2024, 09:27:14 AM »
Have to feel for AL.  Was rightly of very critical of the squad when he came in so has spent the summer getting a squad together that more reflected him and his ideals.  Seemingly with the size of the squad this season he has been well back by Joe and SC.   Opening game must have delighted him and made him think he was really into something.

So to see that performance and result in Saturday must have really concerned him and have 2nd thoughts about certain players.

Let’s hope that display was a one off as we don’t want to become a soft touch for any team we play who just load balls into our box and out battle us.

Agreed. I feel that the management team has recruited really well. The missing link may be a 25 year old towering centre half with pace(seem to remember we had one some time ago). I do wonder whether we lack a commanding presence at the back now, given that JC is coming towards the end of a brilliant career and given that Jones for all his good work behind the sticks, isn't one to come charging out for crosses.

Just seen the goals on the Alfreton twitter site. They seem pretty soft particularly the 2nd where their guy runs between two Lynn players without a challenge being made and the 3rd where somehow our defenders including Gold I think miss a direct throw in ........very disappointing

Don’t know these players yet, but the selection looks top-heavy with defenders as usual,  That always means the opponents spend far more time attacking us than vice-versa.  Hope I’m wrong, but we only appear to have had about 4 attacking players on the pitch.

Hi Dilly. I have to say I agree with you. We seemed to set up to try and keep them at bay, rather than impose our attacking style on them. I am not sure our defence is good enough to go away and try to stifle....our strengths seem to lie in our forward players. If we are playing a true footballing side, then Cody Johnson protecting a back 4 works, but where he is by passed by lump football, then it all rests on the centre backs. Scarborough at home last year was a good indication of how we can impose our style going forward, but are exposed if we sit off and let teams come at us.

Very disappointing result... expected more fight from the Linnets squad than we had today.  Hopefully Tuesday night will be changed team who can fight for the club than we had today.

It's always a physical scrap at Alfreton. In past seasons we have had the height and physical presence of Crowther or the warrior like MC Cauley........even with those characters it was usually no better than a point and we usually came away with injuries or suspensions.. it is almost a unique challenge and our back line isn't the tallest or youngest around. Hopefully we won't come up against many similar sides this season

General Discussion / Re: Match highlights
« on: August 17, 2024, 10:22:55 AM »
None of the above would seem to answer Colin's original question???

Thank goodness for Warrington's excellent highlights package.

Good morning Colin, good morning Rod.

There is an excellent new initiative, called a virtual season ticket, aimed at those who live away or who are unable to get to games. It's available at a reasonable fee and included within it, is the highlights of each game emailed direct to you. I see the highlights have now been posted for general viewing. However, if I was running the show, I would think it logical that those that subscribe to the virtual season ticket, get to see the highlights first. It may not be how things work, but it would seem reasonable to me if they did.

Here's hoping for a good result at "Ofton". G

Has the Media content that’s coming out tempted you to attend on Saturday Pink?

Already booked up this weekend Mall, but will be keeping a look for score updates. Hopefully Lynn can get off to a really good start .

Entertaining for me.   Some good bits in there amongst some rather strange comments.

More importantly I think the media team have really stepped up to the plate with some of the content they are putting out there.  I find it really engaging with the Supporters.

Yes I agree...much more positive vibe about things, with plenty of opportunity for interaction. Well done to SC,AL,SW and the media team. Some good new initiatives too-like the idea of the "New Season ticket" for those that live away.

This is an interesting debate Paul/B&G.   I would suggest you both contacts within the Hallowed Walls of The Walks.  I’m sure when you are both asked to keep a confidence then you would have the grace to honour that, as indeed so would I.    It’s not unusual to be told something that certain people from within the Club want leaked.      For example I have seen nothing about the Kobe Chong playing Sunday football story, or maybe I missed it ?

As for the new signing AL has drip fed little clues out over the last few games.  It keeps the interest for the fans and wets the appetite for the signing.   I would consider it good marketing on AL’s part, on behalf of the Club.  I would hazard a guess that all 3 of us know the identity of the new signing but each have kept that confidence.

In summary then......the idea is to whet people's appetites, but, the signings seem to take so long to come through, that by the time they do , most know who is coming, so when it's announced it's old hat

Nothing better ( in Football terms) than a home game on the opening day of the season.

Hopefully there will be a 1000 plus crowd in as AL has brought in a new feel good factor to the playing side.

He is spoilt for choice with options for a starting 11, though Margetts will be a big miss.  Think we have the depth to cover this though.    A new midfield player should be in today so gives AL even more choice.  Wonder if it’s a loaner from Fleetwood, the Manager seems to have a good connection there.

I’m thinking we are going to send out a huge message to the League on Saturday and hand a 3-0 beating.   Though I’d take a scrappy 1-0.

What are others thinking ?

I am thinking Warrington are currently bottom and Lynn are mid table, so I am hoping for a win :laughcry:

Yes, the squad and general landscape has altered significantly sine Kobe was first signed.....I suspect if Lynn were a much bigger club that could support a really large squad, he may well have been retained. However, he is probably keen for game time and may have had to be very patient if he had stayed.

Everyone must make their own decision, I guess Rod. As Kenny suggests, I believe it's highly unlikely that things will change in the way you desire, but I guess you never know. I have supported Lynn from the late 60's, but having moved out of Lynn, haven't been a regular attendee at The Walks for some time now, (Round trip of 120 miles/3hours). You do miss that special Saturday feeling and the match-day atmosphere, but you can still feel connected by reading reports and interacting on here.

General Discussion / Re: Linnets keeping it global.

Some strange ways of saying a new sponsor (3rd announced this summer) is positive on here!

Thought as Lynn “fans” you’d be pleased about the good news.

Maybe just me then??

I can't speak for others Paul, but I am very pleased.....especially with the last one having local connections. Like many, I am also somewhat intrigued by developments, with there seemingly being an emphasis on "global", when most non league teams seem to still be focusing on "local". Maybe KLFC is ahead of it's time ? :dontknow:
