Setch's Blog ........................makes good reading!

Managers Blog

I thought it was about time I wrote another blog to give you an update on whatís been going on lately at Kings Lynn Town FC, we have now played 18 league games and have amassed 26 points and we currently sit in ninth place, you could say we have had a good first half start to the season and recent league form has been very good with us climbing up the table the last few weeks, we still have a lot improvement to make and many missed chances are still costing us in games and this something that has to improve as we go into the next part of the season. For me personally it has been pleasing to see so many young and local lads in my squad and players stepping up from the reserves and doing the club proud, but the recent and current injury crisis has definitely caused me a few sleepless nights of late, I have never know so many injuries and of the same type. I think my first few years of management I would have gone out and got players in on loan for a few weeks to help us out of the crisis, but we now have a group of young players at the club over the past few weeks who have stepped up to the plate and done fantastically well, to think Simon Bird was playing step 7 football for Dersingham Rovers last season says it all.

Matty Castellan has also come in and done very well since arriving from Swaffham Town and he was only playing step six this time last season. Was very pleased to see young Dylan Edge get his first goal against Histon, the highly-rated teenager has been the name on the lips of every Linnets supporter since he signed a senior contract last month, he has come into the squad with a great attitude and a hunger to do well for the football club, I am pretty sure Dylan will get an opportunity to start a league game in the next few weeks. New signing Lee Smith has been nothing short of a revelation since signing from Histon, I have asked him to play in a number of positions and he has done well in every game so far.

Ryan Fryatt is playing probably the best he has during his career, while heís in this rich vein of form, he isnít making many mistakes, and heís putting in very powerful performances thatís what you call progress from a young age at the football club.

The plan over the next few years is to develop these young players for the football club and sometimes results might suffer, itís a bit like a rock and hard place as I know the supporters demand results and at step three it is sometimes a massive jump for the young players but itís the only way they are going to develop if I dip them in and out of games. Itís my job to get results and to finish as high as I can in the table and to win trophies as our supporters deserve success, and I am sure if we are all patient with this group it will happen eventually.

Our cup exploits are now over after recently going out of the Trophy to Nantwich but we managed to accumulate over £10,000 prize money and a total of £80,000 since the club reformed under my guidance, I think possibly we could have gone an extra couple of rounds in the Fa Cup, but sometimes it just turns out that way in football. The Nantwich tie last week was a difficult one to take as no manager or team likes being beat 5-1 but for long periods of the game we was on top but after we got a goal back from Sam Gaughran, defensive errors was our undoing as the clinical finishing of Nantwich proved decisive.

Recently before the Histon League cup match we invited Kingís Lynn Community Football under 12s to play a game against Histon under 12s on the pitch, Kingís Lynn Elite U12ís & all of the elite squads are made up of local boys that currently still play within grassroots football at local junior football clubs. With the KLE they train twice a week under head coach Dan Buhlemann. The boys involved really wanted to impress the 100+ friends, family and additional support that came along to watch the game and they didnít disappoint. Both teams played some very intelligent football and gave the spectators a real treat. This is something as a club we want to introduce regularly before games with the Kings Lynn in Community and local schools, hopefully some of these boys coming through that are showing potential and want to follow the footsteps of others who have represented their home town club like like Shaun Stocker, Jack Frohawk and most recently Toby Hilliard, Matt Castellan and Dylan Edge.

Recently we have introduced a new online forum on our website, so far this has been a success and the question night we had was good fun and I had many questions from the supporters, we will do this again in the next few weeks as it gave people the chance to ask questions from the comfort on their own home. BT Sport is now up and running in the main bar and cafť showing live games with the beer deals, and it has been nice to see a good atmosphere before the match and several away supporters also getting involved.

We had a few incidents of swearing on the terraces recently on the terraces, i absolutely love the atmosphere that the group of lads have created behind the goal at home and away games, these lads are like a breath of fresh air to the football club and all the players enjoy hearing there songs and chants, at the Histon game we was very fortunate to have ball balls from the Kings Lynn in the community football team and these lads was spread around the ground and behind the goals. Unfortunately some of the language was unacceptable for the children to hear and some of the parents complained to the stewards in charge. The stewards do a fantastic job for the football club and as a family football club we are trying to create that family atmosphere as well, it would be a shame for the some of the parents not to bring their children back to the walks because of the swearing. Because of a few minor incidents we are looking to have a family enclosure at the walks but we would like to ask supporters with families to suggest which part of the ground they would like this area? Details on this will be on the official website over the next few weeks.

Finally as I have mentioned before we are going to introduce a Kings Lynn Town Football Club hall of fame, this was a fantastic idea brought up by one of the supporters at a recent club forum, this will include players from Kings Lynn FC and the reformed Kings Lynn Town, we will introduce two players at the end of every season at the players presentation night in May, this is something all supporters can get involved in by a voting system which will be in place at the start of 2016.

Good luck to the Under 18s on Thursday at March Town and to the Reserves in the Senior Cup against Downham Town on Saturday 3pm Kick Off, the main bar will be open for this game at 12 for the Watford v Man Utd game and the usual beer offer will be on during the live game, four pints for the price of three.

Thanks again for your continued support

More evidence, if any was needed, that the club is moving in the right direction. Well done Setch.

In fairness foul and abusive language is not just heard on the terraces, it's common place on the pitch and indeed in the technical areas.

Time to draw a line under the swearing v stewards of the other weekend, young group of lads are a pleasure to hear, but a complaint was made and the stewards had to act. Carry on as you are lads, but if the stewards ask you to tone it down, please do,and hopefully the stewards won't be open to some of the unnecessary abuse they received.

Well done Setch! An informative read.
On the swearing issue, it's not just the lads behind the goal - some of the comments from individuals on the terrace opposite the stand make me wince - they spoil the game for me. Kick them out once - they'll soon stop.

Good reading. The club are definitely going in the right direction. Looking rosy for the future.
As for the present , it just goes to show what can happen when the youngsters get a chance.
