Gosport Borough today
« on: August 12, 2017, 06:22:57 PM »
We appear to have a strong squad with plenty of talent. Lots of chances created, and strong in both midfield and defence. Its early days but we look good. A bigger than normal crowd went home happy. We will know better after say 5 games. COYL !

A good positive performance from the team, looked very good going forward in the first half. By the second half, things got a bit more stodgy, whether that was because we were in the lead, or still only early in the season, but didn't have any drama's. Norman in particular was the star of the show today.

Be interesting to see how the team copes defensively against opponents with a bit more too them, but you can only beat what's in front of you.

Topstanders mate!

2-0 opening day result with a promising display.  Just let's not carried away to soon,  think there is much much more to come  from this squad. Gosport won't be the strongest outfit we will meet this season. Tougher challenges lay ahead.

Gash n Mettam look a partnership and once they get suited to each other the goals will flow. Norman looks great going forward but maybe needs to sharpen up on his defensive duties. Thought big Sam was immense at the heart of the defence.

Great opening day crowd need to keep it building. Love the new look programme. One thing IC needs to get a grip on is Hawkins and his yell and dive habit.

On to Tuesday and more of a test.

Great start but still very much work in progress.  But boy do the signs look good

Nice to see the team playing together with such confidence and commitment, all coming together on the pitch.  :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:
"If a window was broken or a drain was blocked up, someone was certain to say that Grissles had come in the night and done it, and when the key of the store-shed was lost, the whole farm was convinced that Grissles had thrown it down the well. Curiously enough, they went on believing this even after

The only blip on the day was when the defence relaxed and played the opposition at an advantage. Fortunately Pedro was alert and smothered the attack.

We will benefit from the easy game and improve our possession and confidence. Leon Mettam was everywhere at the front of midfield and worked his socks off. In the Stands we remarked that we were not getting stiff necks from following the high "hoof-balls" and enjoying the passing game on the deck.

Our only moan was - "where was the player on the opposite wing from the attacking play, to collect the overhit cross?".

Michael Clunan was masterful in midfield, Mettam is a different player, Michael Gash is a constant threat at the front, Sam Gaughran is solid in defence, reading the game so well, and Cameron Norman is a wonderful find as an attacking wingback - what a throw he has on him and so confident at taking the ball forward.

Ryan Hawkins played well, but as said, needs to watch out over-acting the challenge. Michael Clunan also needs to tone it down when back-chatting the referee.

We have a great season in front of us and may need all the strength in depth of having so many talents available. Last season our lack of numbers led us to several defeats that cost us a playoff place.

Well the weekend "football feast" is over. The first course at Lynn on Saturday was excellent, whereas the dessert at Carrow Road was awful! Lynn's new manager, new players and old players were full of commitment, energy and actually looked as if they enjoyed playing and most importantly we could see the progress from last season. This wasn't evident yesterday.
