Match report v Dorchester
« on: January 06, 2018, 09:28:28 PM »
A 3-0 win over Dorchester and a defeat for Kettering saw the Linnets complete the double over the Magpies and return to the top of the table.

It was, however, the visitors who took the game to Lynn in a lively opening.
Lynn without the injured Ryan Hawkins and the departed Sam Gaughran added Craig Parker to the starting line-up while the Magpies had three players ruled out through injury and illness.

The first corner fell to the visitors as did the first chance with Bastick heading wide following good link play between Antonio Diaz and Kyle Egan.

Lynn got into their stride and on nine minutes Parker saw his shot fumbled by 'keeper Chris Weale and go for a corner, which came to nothing.

Ryan Fryatt then had a header which went over from a Michael Clunan free kick.

Lynn began to dominate with Parker shooting over and then Cameron Norman got on the end of a Parker cross but Weale saved his shot with his legs.

Further chances fell to Lynn, Michael Gash forcing a save and then Leon Mettam headed over. Lynn took a deserved lead on 28 minutes when Clunan skipped part one defender and fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the area. Four minutes later Lynn's lead was doubled when Mettam was in just the right place to seize on a deflection and tap home.

A minute before half time Mettam was brought down inside the area by Neil Martin,  and scored from the resulting spot kick.

The second half began in much the same way as the first with Dorchester looking lively but the action didn't live up that of the first.

Mettam missed out on a chance to get his hat-trick when he headed straight at Weale from Simon Lappin's free kick.

At the other end Billy Lowes' effort from the edge of the area went over the crossbar and Neil Martin's shot followed a similar fate.

Mettam then shot over for Lynn and Sam Lanahan did the same for the visitors.

Substitute Tom Siddons, on for the final ten minutes, had a couple of efforts just over.
