Opening Day Defeat
« on: August 03, 2019, 08:23:08 PM »
Not the start we were all hoping for, but itís one away game. Nothing more nothing less.  Big opportunity to get the season up and running on Tuesday at Home to Kettering.

Letís see the fans turn out, forget today and claim the 3 points.  We havenít become a poor team overnight.

Not sure about that Mr Hill, but as long as we win enough to get a foothold at this level that will be fine. Important to do well at home early doors to relieve pressure and get some momentum. The home crowd will be really important this season.

Disappointing result at Guiseley, but, as said elsewhere on the forum, an away game, no more no less.  Unfortunately it may already to a certain extent have reduced the attendance on Tuesday.  Hope not.  I have a feeling that most clubs will have slippery midfielders and attacking players that are difficult to stop for 90 minutes,  and I hope we see on Tuesday that we can also be elusive enough to create problems in what are often 8 men defences employed by all away teams in the modern era.  COYL - fortress Walks, hopefully !

One defeat doesn't tell us an awful lot. Guiseley may well be the best team in the division for all we know. But then again....

*We lost 0-3 to Hitchin last season that didn't make us a bad side. We didn't do too bad after all.

Absolutely, we have some good players and should be ok....they just need to sharpen up and get attuned to this level in all areas of the pitch. IC talked about being more clinical all over the pitch last season.....we simply need to convert more of the good chances and stop giving the ball away in dangerous areas....its a step up in mental intensity and focus as well as a physical one.

Went up to watch Boston Utd v Chester  yesterday. Not the prettiest of games.  War of attrition in the middle of park. Plenty of meaty challenges going in.  Nothing to fear from either side, but the physical battle.  I do wonder if certain individuals in our squad will cope with that in the middle.

Certainly off the pitch we have plenty to learn, if Boston is the benchmark. Crowd as just shy of 1400.  Both sets of fans made themselves heard from opposite ends of the ground.  Admission was £15.  Programme  ( which was excellent, 60 pages yes Sixty) was £3

Example Burger 2.20 with Cheese 2.50. How does that compare with us?

One thing that did strike at Boston yesterday was the amount of Sponsorship/Advertising that the Mick George Company do there. Stand Sponsorship, advertising Boards, full page advert in the Programme.  Yet wouldnít  even have a board with us.  Little wonder Stephen Cleeve was upset.

They also sponsor Peterborough FC shirts as well; where's there's muck there's money. On a Posh note; went to Bedford v Posh game last week and FBT was playing. He done well and didn't look out of place. He was also on the bench yesterday, mind you most of the players were, looking at the result.

I do believe up until te end of last season we carried their sponsorship, but for whatever reason his season they have pulled out? Someone will correct me if I'm wrong? :dontknow:

Think it was Frimstones Griss. Mick George took them over then decided to withdraw the support that Frimstoneís had previously offered over the years.  Iím sure thatís what Stephen Cleeve said.

Would fully expect Lynn to get 1400 when Chester visit, provided Lynn are competitive and the table reflects that.

Chester brought just over 200 to Boston KES.  So I hope you are proven right that we pull in 1400.

Boston certainly run a silk operation pre match.  Lots going on.
They now have a Club 85 experience for each game. Which looks interesting ( check it out on their website).  Also small sided game at half way for ball boys.  Who parade around the pitch before kick-off waving their Boston Utd flags.

Will be sad to see another ground of character disappear at the end of this season.
