Altrincham at Home

Very good game again today.  We were superb in the first half - excellent football worthy of a higher level, although shooting boots not quite there.  Second half Altrincham looked classy and dangerous, befitting the top non-league side they have always been.  Then two fine finishes from Adam M.  Michael G didn’t have a good game today, but he was always involved, and a little unlucky.  Good stuff from all, but I thought Sam K was a bit unlucky to be penalised in injury time which led to their late equaliser.  I’m a big fan of Sam, though, and thought he showed real ability, as usual.  Must say SC’s notes in the programme were entertaining and humorous.

Altrincham are a good side. They finished 5th last year but have taken a while to get going this year. Lynn the superior side 1st half couldn't make their possession count. Scrappy second half which suited the away team. Two brilliant goals from Marriott. Worth the entrance fee for those alone. Lynn in 4th with games in hand. Happy days!

A very good 1st Half where we should have got at least 1 or 2goals but for some great saves from Thomson their goalie (who looked as if he had eaten most of the pies). Goalie was taunted all the game with "You fat B******"

On that subject, the goalie not the pies, at the end as teams coming off their goalie made a beeline for Aaron Jones (I believe, but could have been Adam Marriott) and roughly ruffled his hair and said something. Aaron/Adam was not amused and this sparked a handbags situation. Goalie was hustled away by Stewards as players milled about - it could have got a bit nasty.

We we well on top but Michael gash had a poor game by his standards - some in the Stands called for his substitution but I suspect that other players were feeling the strain and needed resting for Tuesday more than Gashy (Ryan Jarvis, Chris Henderson). The pitch was sticky and this did not help any player's control and a few were slipping over.

Jordan Richards was, in my view, rightly given Man of the Match. He was everywhere in the midfield and his work rate and tackling were immense. Nice to see ryan Hawkins back and nearly "winning" FK's and a penalty!!!

Two more well taken goals by Adam Marriott nearly saw all 3points but an improved Altrincham in the 2nd Half scotched that with 2 equalisers. Not a classic game but, with our injury problems and small squad, a relief to get 1point.

Yes.  Jordan R was top man today.  What a good squad we have, but maybe short of two.....  Have to express disappointment at attendance so far this season.  I appreciate the percentage increase, but this team deserves at least double yesterday’s gate,  The set-up of Manager , team, and Chairman deserve so much more, if we want to maintain and improve on this excellent era.....

Getting concerned about the attendances.  It’s OK being impressed by the improvement from last season, but the standard of this team deserves a much bigger crowd than what has materialised.  We have the potential to match most of the attendances in the National, never mind the Northern division, but we’re not pulling them in quite as expected.  The Chairman was right to be optimistic about the improvement possible for this club when he took it on, and we surely need to repay his efforts.  A good result at Kidderminster tonight should  help the attendance at the next home game.

Potential yes, but have to remember this is the highest level King's Lynn have ever played so attendances will increase over time if consistency is gained at this level. There's teams that have gone up into the Football League where attendances haven't grown with the multiple rising in levels. The teams that are brining in 2k+ at this level are former league clubs that would have built a fanbase core from their years at that level, King's Lynn are building a core fan base from a level many down. The average that King's Lynn are at moment is very good, if at worse case they were to establish themselves as a regular top half play off pushing side at this level, the club would be regarded as one of the 'big' sides in the league. Pull off a shock and go up, you're still not going to see a jump to the 2k attendances on average (only games where the big sides with a following come) but an average around 1500+ would be another very good step forward.

It's all about building that Step 1-2 fanbase core, and King's Lynn have made a very good start to this and in years to come will hopefully reap the rewards by being a consistent and financially stable side at this level.

Thanks for that Admin, great stats there. 1992/93 average gate of 301. The fans really didn't buy into the John Dollimore / John Musgrove project did they?
