Boston United Post Match report:

Boston United opened 2020 with a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of National League North leaders King's Lynn Town.
The Pilgrims endured a resounding reversal against the table-topping Linnets to suffer their first home league defeat of the season.

Goals from ex-Pilgrims Adam Marriott and Jordan Richards put Lynn in control at half-time and Michael Gash completed the scoring 10 minutes from time.

Jake Wright, Dominic Knowles and Dayle Southwell were unleashed in a three-pronged United attack and Wright was hacked down early on by Ross Barrows, which earned the Lynn defender a fourth minute yellow card.

Brad Abbott sailed the resulting 25-yard free-kick narrowly wide.

The visitors took a 28th minute lead when MARRIOTT was adjudged to be onside when racing through and held off Ben Middleton to beat Peter Crook from 18 yards.

Crook soon stuck out his chest to beat away Chris Henderson’s firm drive following an assist from Marriott.

Barrows almost sliced a Martyn Woolford cross into his own net towards the end of the first half but Lynn were soon two goals to the good when Gash and Marriott teed up RICHARDS to fire home low to Crook’s right from 20 yards.

United attempted to up the ante after the break and visiting keeper Alex Street did well to thwart a marauding Wright.

Knowles then teed up substitute Jay Rollins, who netted with aplomb, but was promptly flagged offside.

United’s best chance went begging when substitute Jordan Thewlis crashed an effort high over the bar from 12 yards with the goal at his mercy.

Crook denied GASH at his near post but was powerless to stop the same player sealing Lynn’s victory with a simple close-range finish after Marriott had intercepted the United keeper’s poor goal-kick.

Seems to me that Wyberton FC Supporters thought we were better team and deserved winners, but the official report didn't bother to credit us with this.

I think some parts of Boston are still rubbing their eyes in disbelief... remember we were an unknown quantity to them until a few days ago..while Lynn have been going about their business, Boston have been caught up in their Cup run... suddenly they realise there is this side who are playing free flowing football, who are moving away from them.
Watson at York seems to have finally cottoned on and is realising that having  most emphasis on defence and grinding out results may not be enough, with this Linnets side performing how they are. Lots of standard banner waving and puffing out of chests in Boston, York and Chester press as a result...I see Watson has been moved to say he is "supremely confident" of victory at Southport on Saturday..... obviously feeling the pressure a bit...think Lynn are actually creating significant waves throughout this division.
COYL keep it rolling !
