Yeovil away
« on: August 25, 2021, 08:34:16 AM »
How do you fancy our chances of getting something from this one?    Their first game of the season so maybe a good time to catch them with us having a decent 90 mins under our belt.

Will King be returning after being ‘unavailable’ last weekend?   Does all seem very cloak and dagger why he wasn’t playing last weekend.  Does Junior miss his first game ?

I fancy us for a 1-1

What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

Not sure we missed King that much, Rowley looked good in the first half and he will only get better with more minutes, seemed a more rounded player than King ie actually looked to get involved when we didn't have the ball.  I think the bigger issue last Saturday was the front two which will have to change this week anyway, presumably with Linton getting his chance to stake a claim or, as we are away, will IC mix it up and just go with Gold up top and Gyasi and Rowley a bit deeper?  Either way the back three and both full backs did enough for me to keep their places and there doesn't seem much option in the middle of the park unless we bring Sundire in for a bit more 'legs'.

As for Yeovil, as you say it might be a good time to visit and would be happy to come away with a point

Not sure we missed King ?  King and Rowley together would lift our level, imho.  Rowley did look decent vs Southend, and I can see him thriving if supplied with King’s vision and ability.  We are on the verge of having a team that will trouble good sides in this league.

Rowley looked good in the first half because he could play in the gaps between the midfield and behind the front two, so where would you play King and who would you replace from Saturdays lineup?  I guess you could play both off Omotayo with Morias being out but that looks a lot of 'providers' and not many 'finishers'.  King and his injury record still looks a luxury to me that a small budget and resulting small squad is difficult to justify.

Also I am not sure we will 'trouble good sides' as I don't think Southend will be anything more than mid-table this season but if we can be competitive and consistently take points from those in the bottom half might be OK.

Maybe both could be fitted in a 4-2-3-1 system ?

Problem with it KES is that IC seems to feel more comfy with the 3/5 at that back

Yes, I think many managers of clubs in the bottom half are looking to keep it tight and still be in the game at 60 minutes (and who can blame them). At that point they will then consider possibly being more adventurous.
I personally don't think playing both Rowley and King in the same eleven  will happen very often this season....it would be an interesting prospect going forward, but.leaves us more exposed on the counter....you could argue that attack is the best form of defence (a la Dilly), but that really only holds good when your attack is better than the opposition's defence, to a greater degree than their attack is better than your defence, if you get my meaning.
The defence is new and will take time to gel and get tighter.......and of course it needs to...the keeper Jones can't be expected to pull of that number of saves every game.

With Junior now missing for a few weeks and no sign of King,  does leave us thinner than thin.  Could we do with a body or two through the door?

I heard there was someone in Suffolk that would like a move.
