Torquay away
« on: October 20, 2021, 04:53:26 PM »
What’s our thoughts on this one ?   To come back with anything from this one will be a bonus.

Gazza Johnson had a ropey old start to the season but his team have picked up of late.

Sadly got to go with a 3-1 home win.   Will we have enough fit bodies to fill a bench ?

What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

All games are winnable, but all tough too. Going for 1-1. Expect Taylor could possibly feature too.

On paper this should be the sort of game we are looking to get something out of, I know people will point to Torquay being an 'ex-league team' but we have to judge teams on their current position not history and the truth is, if we win on Saturday we go above them and a 4-2 defeat at Havent this evening is perhaps a better indication of where they currently are.

All that said, we are hardly in the best of states ourselves, hopefully Bowry will be back fit and maybe even Bird and/or Denton for a spot on the bench.  The worries for me are further up field as Rowley will be a huge loss, particularly until Barrett regains some level of fitness that will allow IC to consider starting him

                 Jones
   McFadden, Bowry, Fernandez
Jones, Coleman, Clunan, Barrows
                 Gyasi
          Linton, Omotayo

subs - McGavin, Sundire, Barrett, Taylor plus hopefully one of the returning defenders

I seem to recall hearing they weren’t expecting Barrett to be fully fit until the New Year.  However, with Rowley now out and presumably gone back to Chesterfield then maybe Barret will have to fill that role.  Even if only for an hour in the short term.

Don't think he's any way fit enough for that Mall......he shouldn't be rushed back in. Last 30 mins would be my guess and Sundire can play the other 60....he's more than capable and could do with more game time.

I agree with that view of Barrett KES, and whilst I can understand the desire of some to speed up the process I think he is still a good way off being the first name on my team sheet Malcolm

As for Sundire, yes maybe this could be his opportunity and he could certainly do with more game time but I really couldn't comment on his 'capability', primarily down to the limited opportunities he has had to impress.

Happy to 'agree to disagree' Malcolm and appreciate different people watch games differently, whilst it was a nice ball to Linton, I wouldn't say that the second goal was primarily down to Barrett's contribution.  Equally I thought we looked a lot less secure defensively when Rowley went off as neither Barrett or McGavin look like they want to close people down with enough urgency, last Saturday we got away with it against a step 3 side, heaven only knows what would happen against the hoards of nipsters that Dilly sees in every NL opponent.

That said, if Barrett can get himself up to NL standard fitness (and I think he always looked 'solid') then yes there is plenty of potential there.

Have we had idea from the Club how much longer Morias is likely to be out or what the situation is with King ?

TonyM - Hi from Dillington Towers !  I don’t think our opponents have “hordes” of nipsters.  However, they all have one or two, and that’s usually enough !  We’ve lost one with nipster tendencies, namely Rowley, which is a pity.  I’m not really in a position to dillify any opinions or selections yet, because, where I live, there’s a nasty virus about which has serial killer qualities, soI’ve not been to a game this season.  I know there are snatches on video, but I can’t really judge that way.  I’m very disappointed that King has such a long-term fitness problem, because he was a nipster/ playmaker combined.  Dilly tactics are always influenced by the belief that “players” almost always beat “triers/work rate merchants, or lunks”, eg, the pundits are always on about “strength” “physicality”, while seeing the likes of Salah and Mane rip teams apart, without the cliche-ridden experts ever cottoning on !!!  Stay safe…, and fingers crossed for points on Saturday…

I'm no expert...but the 'lunk' van Dijk and the 'trier' Milner might have something to do with giving Salah the opportunity to do some 'nipping about'.

Ah Sam, you see, you , me and many others have never entered the dream, make- believe world that some term "Dillification". It's a place where normal valid considerations like the ones you make, just don't apply......nothing exists there, save the so called "nipster" folk.

I am sure before too long, you will be answered by someone who lives in said place ....and you will realise that there is no argument to be won :laughcry: :laughcry:
