What’s the point of having contacts if the manager is not allowed to sign the players he wants?   :dontknow:

Thought he did pre season or am I wrong in that assumption?

So what are you saying? A Manager shouldn’t be allowed to sign the players he wants throughout the season?  :dontknow:

IF IC had good contacts and WAS allowed to sign who he wanted...It does not say a great deal for the quality of those contacts and his judgement as to what was going to be required at this level?

IF and WAS????????

Has much as I like the big fella and his talent I fear our league would be one step beyond what we need is a manager that’s used to this league and who could bring in some useful players

I think, reading between the lines that IC was allowed one main shot at getting the recruitment right and that was preseason. I remember IC saying at that stage that they had to get it right " or the consequences would be severe". For Lynn to make the financial commitment to go full time and all that that entailed, I suspect it was known at the time that further recruitment , once the season got underway was likely to be limited, especially if attendances were moderate.
Of course in that situation, if things don't work out then any manager will ask for  more new signings, but I suspect it wasn't do able within the agreed plan.

On the subject of attendances KES it just shows that Lynn fans will turn out in decent numbers if they have a team that is successful, no matter what level they are playing at.   Step one might be the top level of Non League Football but you will
Be down to the hardcore watching when the team is struggling.

Something there to factor in going forward for the Chairman and his budgets and pricing structure.

Mallard, yes this is true, I guess that applies to most clubs though. At the start of this season, most of us I would think would say that a successful season would be to avoid relegation. Of course, we can still achieve that, it's by no means impossible.
SC can see how tough this level is and he knows what is needed, maybe he should have acted sooner. It would probably take a couple of seasons at this level to find our feet and to become a good mid table team.

:farmer: :oldman" I personally feel we need a manager with experience in the National league, who has a note book full of contacts at National league level and above, not below, we could possibly survive with a few players from lower levels, but we as a club seem to be recruiting all from lower leagues or injury prone players from our level or slightly higher. The problem as I see it is, no money, no players really up to the level, no money coming in through the turnstiles to fund better players, no real income from advertising, so realistically what experienced manager would really want too take that on . Only time will tell. :oldman" :farmer:

I think you’ve explained quite eloquently why we are unlikely to get a manger experienced at this level, and will end up taking a punt on an inexperienced up and coming manager, because they are the only ones likely to be affordable and willing to take the punt and what might be seen as poisoned chalice.

No matter whoever comes in as Manager to attract decent players will cost decent money to dig us out of this hole.  Is that money there ?  Seemingly not as IC was struggling to get players in of the right calibre.   A team not winning won’t attract numbers through the gate.

Speculate to accumulate and all that.  Otherwise it’s a cert we will finish in the bottom 3.

IF this happens will be interesting to see what the Cleeve plan will be with no £500k to prop the club up next season.

It all seems head in the sand.

Wonder if we can find a player manager of the right ilk... would be a cost effective thing to do and given the youngsters some direct leadership on the pitch
