What Chance Notts County Game Going Ahead on Tuesday Evening?
« on: January 09, 2022, 11:12:37 AM »
Woking game called off due to waterlogged pitch and weather forecast not brilliant over the next few days.

What are the chances of the Notts County (rearranged) game on Tuesday evening going ahead? Mind you they will have all day to get the mops, buckets and brushes working.

......and to mobilise the abled body and willing volunteers.

Let's hope they are on to it now, and a call for assistance isn't made at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning.

Let’s hope for some fine weather, a  good crowd and TW continuing his 100% home record
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

Whether the game is on or off an early decision will be needed
to prevent unnecessary travel.
Regarding a bit of mud; I can't remember my P.E. teachers at the QBS in Wisbech cancelling our x country runs along Halfpenny Lane due to the weather.
Also, there seems to be a lack of flexibility. Notts County were given the opportunity to play the postponed game on the Tuesday after Bank Holiday but declined.
which was a shame as many were still on holiday at that time and
would have helped with crowd numbers. Yesterday, there was the suggestion to delay the kick off until four but again apparent lack of flexibility.

Can local refs be used to do match day pitch inspections to help in early decision making.

Coastal Linnet it always used to be that if a local referee inspected the pitch then he had to be at the same level as the match referee. Chances are if there are any officials at that level in the area then they would be on their way to a fixture.

According to SC Twitter pitch was playable at 4 with both teams prepared to play.listened to Radio Norfolk yesterday and it was said by commentators that there was no way Notts County game should have been called off.

Pitch inspection at 11am, does anyone know if Rob Whitton was the original ref, if it is the same guy then I would say there is next to no chance of it going ahead, any other ref then with the forecast we should be in with a good chance of seeing some football tomorrow night.

How long does a pitch inspection take to do?

Why is it that referees are seemingly the only people.qualified to determine whether a pitch is 'playable'?

Because it is part of their duties, in the same way assistant referees check the nets before a game.  Someone has to be responsible and who else would you suggest?

Checking the nets is surely a fairly black and white situation, whereas determining whether a pitch is playable brings many issues into play, leaving much to individual interpretation, unless an objective judgment is made against a set of consistent criteria????
