Please lets go back

Been watching The big match re visited, I am 84 and played when you pretended you weren't hurt.
It's absolute bliss to watch, you know get the ball forward, winger taking the full back on and not
passing back to the keeper when you've arrived at the edge their box. Happy day's.

Jack no one can surely miss the state of those pitches.   I watched one game on there not so long back and the flanks were frozen solid while down the middle of pitch goalmouth to goalmouth it looked like Wells Beach.
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

when we remember the pitches, the leather footballs with laces, boots with toe caps. Todays ballerinas in boots that resemble glorified slippers!
They would never have survived 50 years ago.

Mallard, also remember having difficulty clearing the ball out of the penalty area because of the weight of the ball and mud.
But on the good side can you remember first game of the season seeing the lush green pitch. didn't spray the pitch so
players can slip A over T . Can also remember playing at Tonbridge on waterlogged pitch and following week at Cambridge City
on a perfect pitch.

I don't think a winger from those days would get a kick against a modern fullback (top level anyway). Also struggling to track back and defend against a different role the fullback plays today. They would be blowing out of their backsides by half time due to the difference if fitness and the extra work required in trying to get possession back.

I mean no offence with this, its a light hearted debate I always had with my grandad when he used to tell me how much better players were "in his day" I miss those chats.

Gordon you mention boots ! what about the leather studs when the nails come through inside just a little but enough to do a bit of damage lol.
