I seem to recall reading/hearing that Heacham have a ‘Romford Pele’ evening organised which was sold out very quickly.  Surely if a club the size of that can ( no disrespect) do it then KL should be able to sell out a few times over.
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

Mall, you are not comparing like with like.  Twisted Melon is a business in 'the industry' and obviously have some sort of track record / experience in this sort of thing and to a degree can afford to take the odd punt on an act based on that experience.  The FotL on the other hand don't seem to have that experience or the contacts to put on events like this, that isn't a criticism as much as a statement of the skillset of the volunteers that form the committee, they also don't have huge financial reserves to 'speculate to accumulate' and really would the membership want their subs spent running speculative music events or (for example) something closer to the fanbase as a whole such as away travel and/or something similar to Gavin's Paul Merson evening?

Unfortunately, like a lot of things at the club, people (on the outside) seem to expect 'instant success' which isn't easy with an inexperienced committee that inherited a depleted membership post-lockdown and with much of the fanbase that, for a variety of reasons, seems less willing to support the existing regime (and by association the FotL).  Personally I think the best they can do for the rest of the season is try and do all they can to increase the membership for next season, maybe run one or two 'easy win' (minimal expense, maximum participation) events and see where they are at the AGM in August.

Tony, everyone committee/ Fund raising has to start somewhere.  Maybe dip the toe in the matter to gain that experience.  Find a sponsor to underwrite a couple of ‘Evenings with’

The easiest thing is to do is nothing. I have offered a couple of fund raisers in the past and been prepared to underwrite ( with others) any loses.  Both times the ideas fell on deaf ears.  How many times can people make these kind of offers before losing interest.

Maybe an approach people with the skill sets needed to help out in the short term might be another forward.  After all the worst that could happen could be no.  There are people around the Club who have made good money for the Club in the past.   Got to be worth a phone call ?

Reading these two post's I had to smile to myself.

No disrespect to either of you, but these is an age old problems in business..........................."When Accountancy meets Sales and Marketing".    :laughcry: :laughcry: :laughcry:

Another idea for ‘An evening with’ would be to ask Stephen Cleeve to get out his little black book of Chelsea contacts.  Must a few in there where he could reel in a favour or two

Hasn't got to be expensive. Carl Heggs and Robbo came to Lynn and did an "evening with" which was arranged by the Trust when the previous Club folded.

All they wanted was the cost of a Premier Inn room for the night, so they didn't have to travel back home straight away after the evening.

No disrespect taken at my end, just an apology for being 'too sterotypical' ;).

I try not to be the 'no' department and Mall, I am far from suggesting the FotL do 'nothing' between now and the end of the season, but I just don't think competing with Twisted Melon and/or Gavin Caney's events is necessarily the right option at this point in time, better to have a couple of events that will attract the existing / potential membership and prove the FotL relevance / value to encourage more members for 2022/23

There's a Stereotypical Band based in Kings Lynn, called the Sterotypes.

Obviously nothing wrong with bring Stereotypical.

Yes you are spot on there Mallard. Totally sold out without advertising it. 140 guests at £50 a head includes 2 course meal at Heacham Manor Golf Club. Auction and raffle etc etc. Ray Parlour and a comedian also.
This Heacham night will be just like the ones we had every season for many years at KLFC. But then we had a commercial manager worth his weight in gold, a management committee supporting the board and most of all an all singing all dancing supporters club running the clubshop with new stock lines available every game, away travel, bonus ball ,100 club draw EVERY home game, Xmas supporters lunches, various functions regularly in the Blue and Gold, End of season presentations to name a few.
What have we got now, greenhouse clubshop with a lack of stock, no away travel organised by the club, Supporters club, how many members? Functions, ha ha. What is planned. Big fat zero!
Sad times and i can only see it going backwards because nobody has the oomph to try and move it forward and nobody wants to speculate to accumulate. Its all take take take. Where is the old give and take.

It would be nice Gordon we did much the same in the village up in Derbyshire but we need  to get more people interested but at the moment it’s like flogging a dead horse everyone can comment on here but no one will step forward to help out, FOTL have put on two events both poorly attended, I know what needs to be done but would we get the backing, l think not, all I hear is people moaning but no one will do anything about it

How about taking advice from people that have succeeded in the past?

Gavin Caney is a life long Linnets supporter, and has just held a very successful "Evening with Paul Merson".

I know who I'd contact if I wanted some ideas on putting on such an event.

Same with a music event or quiz evening. I'd ask people who know about such things and have arranged them in the past. I wouldn't just put on event because it sounds like a good idea.

The Trust have previously arranged successful quiz and race evenings.

There's a Music promoter using the facilities at the Walks.

Maybe you've already spoken to them, if not it maybe a good idea to start there. The worse that can happen is that they are unwilling to help (although I know for a fact that's not the case with the Trust).

Good luck.
