Summary of tonight's meeting with Barrie for those that couldn't be there

He started with a brief summary of what he has done previously, including Leicester and Boston, basically showing he had a broad range of experience and wasn't here to fill his time (has other interests in publishing and management consultancy).  Described the club currently as having no structure, no organisation and not professional which didn't appear to daunt him but was realistic in terms of timescale (long term) and also the fact that many bridges will need rebuilding both on the commercial side and with fans.  Was very keen to say he was his own man and was here to make a difference but wouldn't stay if he wasn't making progress

Also mention of a new role within the club - community manager - although this wasn't really expanded on

He presented his 10 point plan - apologies if this isn't a true reflection but he was pretty brief on some bits
 * increase income (corporate)
 * retail - fan lead merchandise (consultative group to help)
 * membership scheme
 * fan interaction - more involvement / communication
 * community involvement
 * kids club
 * more business people involved with the club
 * more public sector links (council / health bodies / police etc)
 * ground development
 * more money for squad

Barrie then took questions, this isn't comprehensive but more of a flavour:
 * problems with pitch - accepted there are issues and has someone on board to produce a plan
 * is he paid a salary or commission based - monthly fee but not paid a 'going rate' as appreciates we don't have lots of cash
 * are hands ties by Sports England loan - wasn't aware but will be going through financials with SC in the coming weeks
 * away fixtures supporters bus - wasn't aware of what has gone before but will 'look into'
 * new tannoy - now installed
 * better communication - will include consultative groups, website and already speaks to media a lot
 * pricing - structure already in place when he joined, thought both friendlies and season tickets were overpriced.  Follow up question about whether it was worth selling season tickets this season and he still thought it was.  Also liked 'early bird' discounts but something to consider for next year
 * issue with individual hospitality - Barrie said this wasn't the first time he had heard such complaints and said things would change under his watch, basically wanted to give fair value for money if he was going to sell either individual or corporate hospitality
 * attracting new investors - thought it would be hard to run a club as an individual but not his focus for now

Finished off the evening saying if anyone wanted to contact him he was happy to speak to people and get their views.  He can be contacted at the club via barrie@kltown.co.uk, he also gave out his mobile which I don't think was the smartest of moves so won't repeat here

Thanks for that Tony.  All seems fair enough. Identified some of the issues and realises he has a lot of hard work ahead of him in an attempt to put matters right.

Interesting he wasn’t aware of the Sports England loan.  Lack of due diligence on his part and how does that impact on monies raised for other projects ?

Thanks Tony M for the update.

So now we know it is Mr Cleeve who has set the pricing for this season.  Mr Pierpoint hasn't been here long but has immediately identified what i've been harping on about since Mr Cleeve took over...............Season tickets are overpriced! They really represent awful value.  He also likes Early bird offers on season tickets but this is for next season, why?  We are only just into June and could easily be set up if the club really wanted to get the supporters on side but it appears Mr Cleeve has stamped his feet on this subject.

If BP thinks season tickets are overpriced he must also see that general admission is overpriced.  How can a child be charged £10 to sit in the wings of the stand and £22 to sit in the centre? It's immoral. Also OAP's, £17 to sit in the stand wings £22 in the centre? Come on this need urgent reconsideration now not next season

Squire, Rome wasn’t built in a day ( though if Barrie had been on that job who knows ).

Hopefully if BP stays around long enough he can start building those bridges between the Club and some of the fans.  There maybe ways he can help the fans in the pocket then again it might penalise those buying season tickets.

In truth BP needs to get himself and the Owner to sing from the same Hymn sheet.  Is that achievable?

In truth?

Maybe for a while, but if it is achievable I have my doubts it will last long.

Similar to signing a player that's too good for us and we know will move on sooner or later. Just have to make the most of it and enjoy it while we can.

Time will tell.  :dontknow:

Think with his previous experience and also outside interests, if he is not listened to or his suggestions not acted on then he won't be here long. I wish him well, but feel that this is SC's last throw of the dice.

Feel BP is onto a lot of things going on at the Club. The term ‘Amateur’ says so much of what SC is about in footballing terms.  It’s taken 5 years to get someone onboard with knowledge and background to move the Club on.  SC would do well to let the guy get on with things and not try and micromanage him.  Something that other employees have levelled at him.

Like you Blu I wonder if this one doesn’t work out then where to next ?

To be fair to Barrie, this was as close as it got to a grilling last night.  He explained that an early bird was there to help clubs with no cash coming in for May or June so given that we are now more than half way through that period it wasn't something that he wanted to reopen which seemed fair enough.  He was pushed about maybe scrapping season tickets this season (not by me even though I would agree with it) but said he still thought they were a useful source of income for the club although I think he only got a small taste of the dissatisfaction they cause.  He did say that he thought the balance was wrong in terms of income generation (too much centered on fans) but that wasn't going to be fixable this season and asked for patience.

Sorry, one other question raised last night was whether he would be looking to work with the two supporters groups (FotL & Trust) and he said he would and indeed he did speak to both chairs and other committee members from both organisations after the meeting which would seem to be a reasonable starting point when looking at more fan led initiatives.

won't help him that a club helper went straight home and slagged the trust chairman off on twitter

Must have heard about his Arsenal season ticket. :laughcry:

Yes, I saw the Twitter post and much as I understood it I would much rather see a proper debate within the club/fanbase about what role people see for the Trust in the current set up and ways in which both parties could work together.  There are some things that the Trust can't do from a legal perspective which I think some people use as a stick to beat them with but if you look for common ground then there are plenty of ways to make it work for both parties imo

There are also somethings than an Independent Supporters Club can't do from a legal perspective, but apparently that's not bothered some people in the past.
