You would think so. Shouldn’t be a problem for the club.

A deposit  and money in advance is not uncommon for such arrangements.

If they want people to assist, it may be a good idea to publish how much they intend to pay.

The Rent a Room Scheme lets you earn up to a threshold of £7,500 per year tax-free from letting out furnished accommodation in your home. This is halved if you share the income with your partner or someone else.

I think the criteria is for the year, not the amount of tenants you have. So, for example if you have one person renting for 6 months, then another for following six months, potentially no tax to pay until £7500 is received.

If you have two people at the same time, I think other issues would crop up, such as licensing the property as an HMO.
