⚽️ F.A. CUP ⚽️
« on: October 11, 2022, 07:11:41 AM »
With £1 & £10 ticket prices on offer and norwich fc away, let's hope for a bumper crowd...This team/club deserve it, with Ashington fc doing there bit on the supporters side i.e. -possibly two coaches? I'm optimistic that fans will return through the gate. ....🙏 on the game itself i envisage a 3-0 win and hopefully in or around  of 1500-2000 gate....Then the fun begins with the draw and all it brings✌️💙💛   come on people let's get behind the club 🙌

Perhaps a lunatic was simply a minority of one.

Definitely grissles, the build up of fans is horrendous on a average size gate....

Birc1959, an FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round has always attracted a bigger attendance, with the prospect of what could follow should we win. The price reduction should help too of course.
You are quite optimistic with your score prediction and the 1st Round draw. Although Ashington play 3 levels lower and we will be favourites, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a close game.
Ashington will have done their homework on us and have a game plan.
What team would you put out, would it be the same as the Kettering game.
Prediction wise, 2-1 to KL, attendance given as 1,265.

Three levels is huge, in terms of there league there are no distractions either..
Remember Alfreton beating us a few years ago but they were very decent and robust.....keep the faith john👊

Ashington have already knocked out Bradford Park Avenue who are in our league. Yes, we should be too good for them. Just don’t go thinking it’s a given, do you remember Parson Drove, lost 1-0 at home, or Woodford, at 0-0, we had a free kick just after their keeper was sent off. We scored from it, to go 1-0 up. The final score was 3-1 to Woodford. I can remember other cup upsets too, Ashington need to be respected.
I am away Saturday, so will miss the game, so would love to watch Lynn in the 1st Round. Can see Barrett starting and hopefully his pinpoint passing will set up a few good chances.

i aggre with much of what JohnH says, this game is going to be no push over I believe I hope
I am wrong we must get an early goal I think to put our stamp on the game.Talking of
games from the past, an FA cup one very similar to this one a team the same area,
West Auckland Town. This was the first game for Chuck Martini a  wet day he dropped the
ball from long high cross, and the forward said thanks out of the cup, I hope history is'not repeated.

Do I remember a story about Lynn not taking the West Auckland defeat too well and locking them out of the bar after the game, so they had to go to the Seven Sisters to watch the draw for the first-round proper on TV?

So many cup upsets over the years. I'll chuck in March Town United at home. Was only an early qualifying round but an embarrassing defeat nonetheless during Peter Mendham's short spell as player-manager.

Yes, there has been a few. Of course, we have also won as underdog. Probably most recently, away at Port Vale. 5-3 win at Bishop’s Stortford, what a day that was. 2-2 at half time, then 3 quick goals early on in the second half.

Bishops Stortford 2006 I believe ? Their ground was packed with great atmosphere altho' some of the locals didn't take the defeat very well ! Didn't Adam Smith score from 2 free kicks ?

And Alex ?, the ex-Norwich player controlled midfield. I think their keeper had a 'mare as well.

This should be a routine 3/4 -0 win for the Linnets. Hopefully that will be outcome. Then again, its the FA cup. I just hope the town turn out for the club and make it a day to remember. I wish i could be there but miles away to make it in time after work. If TW goes with the front line as before, then i cant see Ashington stopping them. I will be disappointed if we dont get score a few and there's under 2000 there.

Went to both the Kidderminster replay and Bristol Rovers. Also Away at Rotherham, it was 0-O at half time, but we conceded 6 in the second half. There were 6 official coaches that went, plus 1 works coach.

Some great memories of Lynn FA Cup games.  We actually played really well first half at Rotherham, but I think fitness told in the second period.  The Bishops Stortford game was amazing.  We destroyed them.  One of those days where you almost felt sorry for the opposition keeper.  The away support was literally metres away from him and I think he let two through his hands!  As for the Oldham game on Sky etc, it was a magnificent occasion.  At 2-0 down I think Alex Notman had a really good chance for us 1v1 from a tight angle, but their keeper was class and stopped it.  Would have made for a lively end to the game.  The Walks was rocking that night.  I remember it filling up quite early. Charlie Defty and Mark Camm came out early to warm up on their own and as they ran from the main stand over to the far side and back they had a massive ovation each side.  Made your hairs stand up on end.
