Lynn go clear at the top with a fantastic 3-0 home win over 2nd place Darlington.

Att. 1459.

3rd and 4th placed Scarborough and Gloucester both win.

Just saw this on the Darlo forum:
"Sometimes you just have to hold your hand up and admit you were second best and completely outplayed all over the park. They looked fitter, faster, passed the ball well and battled for everything. In fact they looked like a side from a higher division than us."

Massive and well earned praise for what Tommy is getting his Lads to do.

That was a terrific performance in every area. The defence coped with everything, tackles were won all over the pitch. Lynn challenged everything in the middle of the park, Clunan fought for everything and his distribution, along with Barrett was a delight to behold. Ponticelli's pace was a real problem. Darlington did not know what to do after number 3. Bring on Banbury and Donny. Crewe Alex in round 2 please'

Not really much more he could say to be honest.  TW went back to 3-5-2 and Jones in particular had a great game, the three lads in the middle of the park did an outstanding job of ensuring Darlington never had a chance to get going and Barrett and Ponts up front were both outstanding.  By far and away the best performance since TW joined and a hell of a standard to set / maintain but if they can then there won't be many in the division who could live with that

Masterstroke from TW.
I think a few of us at the game questioned the starting 11.
But he got it spot-on, with probably the best performance of the season so far. 👏👏👏👏👏

Well done to all the team and Tommy. An outstanding performance from everyone. Barrett’s goals were both brilliant finishes, as good as you would see at any level.

Was really nice to see both sets of players after the final whistle, the handshakes and real sportsmanship. Also, massive praise to all the loyal Darlo fans, they kept singing even at 3-0 down, brilliant fans.

Good attendance too and every Lynn fan got good value for money. Excellent all round, so massive praise to Tommy for his great management.

Yes, well done TW.  We have a real team AND good changes when things aren’t quite working.  Bring on Banbury, and Go for the throat again!!!

More from the Darlington forum:

"Losing to top of the league 3-0, away from home, when they are full-time and have a budget 2/3 times larger than ours is not a disaster".

"They're a well financed team..........".

Where do these people get this information from?   :laughcry:

Maybe he bought a copy of today’s EDP where SC stated National League average wage bills have gone up from £900k to £1m.  Recession ? Not in Non League Football, seemingly.
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

I doubt very much that they know their own budget, let alone ours.   :laughcry:

Thank goodness we’ve started playing Barrett at last, rather than talking about “giving him minutes” !  He’s the nipster we’ve lacked for too long.  With Stevens and Ponticelli too, and Clunan’s passing reaching a new level, we’re well stocked for a great season.  I’d like to see Charles “ get more minutes” as well…. Surely the crowd will start to grow now that we have a real team again….
