This afternoon was my first visit to the Walks since the early days of Culverhouse - the first incarnation. I don't class myself as a fair weather supporter though, as i had been a regular through the gates since the late 1950's and even when living too far away to attend games, the Linnet's result was always the first one i looked for....They are and will always be 'my team'.
My reasons for missing the recent seasons of success - probably unparalleled in Lynn's history(?) - were primarily driven by personal issues: though sometimes i freely admit, influenced by the off field direction of the Club.
Today was quite emotional for me and i have nothing but praise for what is happening on the pitch. Tommy has not only recruited a squad of quality - he has also very obviously developed within them, an all for one, one for all team spirit. It was self evident that there is quality and endeavour throughout the team, with Josh Barrett 'the icing on the cake'. A talent, who if he fulfils his obvious potential, could and perhaps should eventually play several leagues higher.
The downside though is that Tommy and the supporters deserve more from the 'off field' side.
I will never understand how or why certain supporters, who also run successful businesses and were / are potential sponsors - those that the club should be going out of their way to attract - have seemingly been alienated to a point where they look elsewhere for their Saturday afternoon entertainment and in some cases, an alternative home for their sponsorship monies.
These could and should be the clubs financial 'bread and butter'. So why 'bite the hand that could be feeding you'???
