TW is a good recruiter, but not always a good selector.  All the “lowly” teams we have had indifferent or bad results against, particularly in away games, have been for the same reason.  A “safety first” selection with too many defenders, no inventive midfielders, and only one real front man.  We dominate and play well when we have inventive m/fielders and slick attackers. A selection like that keeps the opponents penned back, gives us more chances, and defends as well by keeping them back trying to cope with us.  The worst is when we replace one attacker with another, instead of having both and replacing a defender.  All the bad results were with “bottom heavy” teams, and not top heavy.  Plenty more games, and we have the players to win it.

Excellent analysis !! It's critical that Tommy learns from these specific experiences. And by learning, I mean change his own behaviour when selecting each member of the team for each match. I hope he reads these posts.

I very much doubt TW reads these posts and why should he. He will always do things his way and rightly so, we are doing pretty good after all. We will lose games, as good a team as we are, we are not unbeatable. It’s a work in progress and after the previous two disappointing seasons we are heading in the right direction.
Just because we play against a team lower down doesn’t mean it’s a straight forward win, it just doesn’t work like that, Everton v Arsenal for example.
Having two players sent off is disappointing, which certainly didn’t help. The refs don’t hate Lynn either, it would appear yesterdays ref was brandishing cards too easily, our own ill discipline cost us. If other teams now that, thet are likely to use it.

Exactly JohnH. Our own lack of discipline was a problem. In our position we shouldn’t lack discipline especially when it must have been apparent that the Ref was card happy. I know it’s easy to say and you can get up in the moment but we can’t afford to have good players missing. We have a squad that is as good a one as I can remember, if not better, and I’m completely behind TW. We have to put yesterday behind us move forward. Let’s hope it galvanises everyone and Tuesday we get a stunning win ahead of next Saturday’s tricky game.

I agree with you but it’s the manner of yesterdays defeat gets me and tbh last 6/7 games we’ve huffed and puffed for results and like yesterday it catches up with you , I don’t care with games in hand on teams lower as we need automatic promotion not the lottery of playoffs , personally we miss Hargreaves’s engine and dare I say it Gold , I’d rather see Barrett dropped to bench and give ponts and cosgrave the chance . Teams like Buxton we should be attacking from the off and yesterday was awful , blame pitch , officials but let’s be honest yesterday we looked a mid table team worryingly.

Very true and that’s my thoughts also , we do not look a full time team , Buxton I thought looked a decent outfit  , much more up for it than us . I’ll take the criticism but Barrett I feel some games we’re carrying him all hoping for a Peter’sports moment  , and like tues night to many hopeful punts down the line leading to nothing , this is where we’re now missing Gold and height upfront for cosgrave/ponts to feed off . Hate being negative but I feel last two games painful to watch and I think we may of been found out . Keep the faith all teams have a bad spell look at Liverpool

Totally agree with Bluboy's comments about Barrett. It's a pity his great skill is, for most of the time, let down by his apparent lack of stamina / fitness. It's frustrating, at least for me, when Barrett's tackling appears to be half-hearted i.e. he's just going through the motions; presumably to avoid injury which I totally get. But his failure to win a tackle means that another player may have to risk injury to make up for Barrett. Furthermore, when Barrett loses the ball he rarely attempts to retrieve it. Contrast that with other players; such as Ponticelli.
