Bad day for the Linnets
« on: February 04, 2023, 04:56:30 PM »
Lynn lose 1-0 away to Buxton.

Barrett and Clunan sent off.

Flyde replace Lynn at top of the table, with a 3-1 home win.

Agreed. Especially when some results went our way. Once again I think we started with too defensive a line-up..and two players sent off is not acceptable.

We had better have one hell of a good reaction on Tuesday night or we’re going to lose out to AFC Fylde.

Big chance to put today’s disappointment behind us on Tuesday, take the 3 points and send us back top again.  Lots of twists and turns to come.  Games going to come thick and fast between now and the end of the season for both ourselves and Fylde.   Are they full or part time ?

One thing about today.  Maybe these overnight stops for relatively short journeys are not the answer.  Keep players sleeping in their own beds when you can ?
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

Played against twelve men today; eleven.in blue and one in black.
Clunans first yellow very harsh. We didn't seem to cope very well with the artificial pitch; too many misplaced passes and mistimed challenges. The nine men put in a great effort and the superior fitness of a full time team showed. With eleven on the pitch; we would have got the three points.

Surely after those comments Tommy must mean there were two abject teams of the three out there?

Apparently that's how he referred to the officials.

The more I ponder on today the more disappointed I am. We’re top of the League and should be playing positively and with energy etc.  in my days of playing sport, when you lead from the top/front you don’t believe you’re going to lose and run on belief, adrenalin and so forth. There are no easy games but with respect to Buxton we shoild have been capable of three points with a draw as second best. Look how many points they’ve dropped at home!  Artificial pitch or not there are no excuses for how we performed. Even a bad referee shouldn’t be able to thwart a decent performance. Unless we get our act together, and quickly, we’ll be sucked into the playoffs where anything could happen. We could end the season with nothing and that would be a real shame.

TW is a good recruiter, but not always a good selector.  All the “lowly” teams we have had indifferent or bad results against, particularly in away games, have been for the same reason.  A “safety first” selection with too many defenders, no inventive midfielders, and only one real front man.  We dominate and play well when we have inventive m/fielders and slick attackers. A selection like that keeps the opponents penned back, gives us more chances, and defends as well by keeping them back trying to cope with us.  The worst is when we replace one attacker with another, instead of having both and replacing a defender.  All the bad results were with “bottom heavy” teams, and not top heavy.  Plenty more games, and we have the players to win it.

Personally, I’ll stick with whatever Tommy decides. :scarf:

Just like we did against Gloucester and that was a synthetic pitch also. Too defensive and you are right Doug we should be bursting with positivity. To lose is bad enough but to still get suckered in to 2 reds. We know the refs hate the Lynn and other teams are going to play on that, so need to wise up a bit or Tommy will need more replacements to cover suspensions

Totally agree Dilly,
Second in the league
Games in hand on third and fourth
best goal difference in the league
4 defeats all season
none at home
Absolutely disgraceful Tommy should hold his head in shame
Just remember where we were last year at this time , there are still 20+ games to go.
if you want to question selections take a look at HMS Titanic in Boston
