Football independent regulator
« on: February 23, 2023, 01:43:30 PM »
Well, the government has finally published it's White Paper on football which includes plans for an independent regulator.  Still lots of work to do before it comes into law and no doubt the EPL will be doing its utmost to water down the plans but finally seems to be a bit more momentum on getting as much of the Crouch report into legislation so fingers crossed this comes to pass.

Bit of reaction for those with time on their hands:

Not entirely sure SC is fully behind the plans so will await his response in the programme on Tuesday evening or maybe the EDP next weekend

"Sustainable business model implemented by responsible custodians" no worries there then.

Is this a missed opportunity for the Club?

Another local sports team succeeds in getting a new sponsor on board! Why go to a sport that is rapidly dissappearing up its own exhaust pipe when they could get involved with with the no1 sport in the World and a club with aspirations of playing football league?I doubt Buster has had as much experience as our Chairman with the kind of investment the Stars new sponsor deals in so why take their money to saddlebow instead of the walks.

Don't really see this as a missed opportunity, more a reflection on the fact that the speedway have always been that bit better than the football club at attracting sponsors, something that pre-dates SC's tenure although there is a case that the commercial side at the Walks hasn't in any way kept pace with the rise from step 3 to step 1 (now 2).  Not sure that football being the no 1 sport in the world has much to do with sponsoring the Linnets or the Stars to be honest, I haven't been to Saddlebow Road (showing my age) for a few years but gates were pretty comparable a few years back, maybe a few more at speedway and could perhaps argue that the Stars have higher exposure than the Linnets, particularly when we are NLN, maybe that flips if we were back in the NL.

To be fair the Commercial side at The Walks has been great and is very poor.  So Buster at Saddlebow has had free rein to pull in anything that’s available.   So many people have tried and failed at The Walks in that department.  Can’t even begin to remember all those who have had a go.

I remember back in the day when Speedway was shown live on Sky Sport KL had 3 ( yes 3!) main sponsors.  Money Centre, Banham Poultry and Jark.  That was serious money I gather.  Not sure where Speedway is shown on TV these days, maybe Eurosport ?

We often see SC touting for a match day sponsor in his Twitter account just a few days before the actual game.   Surely we can do better than that ?
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

It'd be really interesting to have the view of such as Gordon Chilvers and Adrian Flux.
