Good away point at Brackley and especially so given the Chester lost. Probably needed all 3 points, as Fylde sit 2 points clear and with 2 games in hand. It’s well and truly in Fylde’s own hands, for us we must try to make 2nd spot. Winning the league still isn’t lost, but failing that, then coming second still gives us a good chance of promotion.

I thought the coverage was very good and worth every penny of the £9.50 to watch it live we where very unlucky not to win tonight against a very good side

Really Malc?  That’s what makes Football such a great game. You can have a vastly different opinion on what you see to what others see.

Thought the coverage was very basic.  Have no idea what was happening on the far side, had you Malc ?

As for the performance thought we enjoyed a lot of the possession but really only huffed and puffed in the final third and never looked that much of a threat.  Crowther and Clunan were the stand out two for us.  Just thought our attacking options looked very limited.
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

Barrett needed in m/f, to complete the more positive line-up.  Stevens, Ponty, and Gold will score more often than they won’t.  Defend with numbers.  We can win this league…..

I think that aptly describes a number of our recent performances. Lots of possision but much of it in areas that won't hurt the opposition.

Think that is a pretty fair summary Mall.  Just because we picked attackers that doesn't make us more 'attacking', yet again the movement wasn't great which is partly down to personnel (COC isn't the same threat going forward as A Jones) and Scott didn't look 100% (hopefully his withdrawal was a precaution rather than an indication of anything more serious) and also down to formation - Widdrington and Clunan did a reasonable job of getting forward but Brackley midfield looked pretty comfortable.  Both sides could have won it late on with good chances but the fact that our goal and the late pressure was from set pieces is a fair indication that we are still not clicking in open play

One thing that did come through loud and clear from the stream was the constant shouting from our bench - I know some like TW's 'passion' compared to IC's approach but surely the management team have enough time with a full-time squad they don't need to be told what to do for the full 90 minutes?  Can also understand the yellow for TW, assume that will come with a fine as it isn't his first of the season

I enjoyed the online coverage although the camera was not high up enough for the best view - commentary was fair and balanced. Lots of possession but desperately needed that cutting edge up top a bit like Farsley at home - i think Brackley had three real chances and scored from one, Crowther excellent at the back and the goalkeeper looked safe and did the basics well. He was hardly troubled as in the main the defence controlled things.

i wonder if Tommy Widdrington's vocals affect the team at all in a negative way, he doesn't let up. i know you tend to live with the team when they are playing kicking or heading every ball but I wonder if a more positive approach might help

I guess he learned a lot about man management from when we played Stevenage.  :laughcry:

Came across as man under pressure.  Questioning every decision that went against Lynn.   Desperation almost

From my post of last week and i think much of this is currently quite relevant. Added to which that excellent pundit (!) Aaron Jones, said that you get a much better perspective of the game when sitting.in the stand, as against being down at pitch level! ..........

"Players are now expected to absorb and to enact, sometimes quite complicated tactical plans before games: then they often have up to three people giving them additional instructions from the touchline as the game progresses. How much of this confuses their thinking and scrambles minds? I wonder. It probably also sometimes discourages individual thought, initiative and the taking of personal responsibility - perhaps encouraging a belief that if the pre planned tactics are not working, it is the manager's rather than the player's fault?

Although manager's have always set out what was required of the team and each player ahead of the game. In days long gone, it was primarily left to the captain and senior players to manage the game as it progressed."

And....

"I can well recall a long time manager of the Linnets, Len Richley, sitting in the stand because he got a better view of the game from there."

Yes Joey, some of the seats are disgusting. You most certainly do get a better angle from higher up, that’s for sure. There is pressure on Tommy, whether he admits it or not. When he first game, he more or less said we only needed to go up one place to stay up, he never managed to go that. With his full season in charge, I think a lot of people, SC too, we’re expecting promotion back to the National League. Tommy is beginning to realise that to do that, it may well have to be by the play offs. Of course, everyone will take that with open arms. TW has and still is giving it his best shot, but if we miss out, it wouldn’t be the end of the world, it is just football after all. Only thing is, should it not go to plan, would Tommy still be here for another season, would be stay full time and would SC still have his enthusiasm.
Re commentary, Arron was excellent, better than Nick Bowler too. Anyway, my thought are that Fylde will win the league, so if we could then get 2nd spot, that would give us a good chance still, so yes, still everything to play for. Would like to see a similar attacking line up v Spennymoor. We will see on that one I guess.

It was a better result away than we have been getting, and showed that an attacking line-up is also a defensive line-up, simply because while we have possession, the opponents don’t.  I hope TW keeps that set-up home and away be abuse the forwards WILL gel and score more often than not.  We can still win this league if we go for it, and not just keep the enemy at our door.  Real pity that Hargreaves and Scott have been unable to play - fingers crossed on Scott after last week.  The Dillathon computer never expects as many chances without Barrett…..
