Thought the Kettering number 8 made Tom Daley look distinctly average.

I wasn't able to be there today but an excellent result and what with Fylde losing it makes for an interesting run in!

Was it very much as before regarding the style of play and formation or did Mark Hughes change anything of significance?

The keeper was throwing / kicking much more rather than us playing out from the back.

Nothing really changed formation wise but as Kettering were only marginally better than last time combined with some baffling decisions by the ref helped keep things closer than they perhaps should have been.  First half we never really got going and, not for the first time since Christmas, we lacked movement, second half improved and we did more than enough to beat Kettering but not sure it would have been enough had we been playing Chester.  Gold took both goals well so fingers crossed he can maintain that through into the playoffs (assuming Fylde manage to get over the line)

We dominated the game and were worth winners. Getting the goal on the stroke of half time was important, as Kettering were happy to defend and frustrate, but they had to be more open in the second half. Omotayo’s first goal was a bullet header from a corner and that gave us a nice buffer. Cosgrave was fouled in the box and won a penalty, which Theo was desperate to take, but Omotayo stepped up and confidently dispatched it. Game was now over as a contest, before we made it 4, before Kettering getting a goal.
Was nice that Mark Hughes subbed Theo, as that gave the Lynn fans the opportunity to applaud him in what couldn’t have been an easy week for him. Mark and Hugo walked around after the final whistle to applaud the fans, which was reciprocated. Mark and Hugo shared an embrace as they were leaving the pitch, there was a sense of real togetherness from them, players and fans after the game.
Omotayo deservedly got man of the match, not just for his 2 goals, he defended our box well, as he always does and won his fair share of headers. Dixon-Hodge looks assured and a good find, distributes the ball well, notably with some long throws. Oxlaide-Chambalain had a good game and is cementing a regular starting place. Barrett seams to have lost his way of late, but did assist for our opener.
Overall, a great win, which will set the team up nicely for Alfreton, With Chester dropping 2 points, second place is looking good, but if we were to win our remaking 4 games and Fylde were to drop 5 points from their remaining 5, it would them come down to goal difference. Hopefully, Kidderminster can do us a big favour on Monday.

Good analysis that.

I have to say, regarding Theo - I've been very critical of him over the last couple of months and while he didn't set the world on fire today, I thought he had a half decent game today.
Can't have been easy for him, and was good to see how happy he looked as the teams came off the pitch and went down the tunnel - was also good that the fans chanted his name to give him a lift too.

Thats a couple of defeats for Fylde in recent weeks - could they be having a wobble now we are in squeaky bum time??

Great result this one to herald in a new dawn.  Couldnt be there as had a Corporate at a League one game.

Was there much difference between a Hughes side to a Widderington style ?
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

I thought that the 1st Half was very scrappy with a poor Kettering side bringing Lynn down to their level. As we got closer to HT we started to get our act together and the goal was the tonic we needed. 2nd Half saw Kettering show a bit more spirit but we took control and stuffed 3more into the net before conceding a goal by a Kettering sub, Sheriff.

Over the past 3 - 4weeks we have not played well - reminiscent of playing under Simon Clark when the team were not liking his tactics and personality. Maybe TW was imposing something and the team were not comfortable with it   :dontknow:

However, 4games to go and we may be in with a chance of pipping AFC Fylde if they slip up.  :scarf: :scarf:

Great result.  As usual the Dillometer indicated that there was one too many defensive players, but we had enough “nip” to dominate the game.  The 10 minute video didn’t indicate to me that Barrett was below par, and it seems that “skilful” players  are alwAys picked out as not doing enough, but they are still the ones likely to produce something more than the others, which Barrett duly did.  Great result though, and IF we can beat Alfreton it should give us a real chance, again, of winning this league.

Dills why not invest a few quid in the Club and have 90 mins worth.  That way you could get the full picture.

Agree with Mallard, Dilly there is no doubting that Barrett is a talented footballer and like yourself, I would prefer him to be in the team. However, he would probably be the first to admit that he hasn’t had the best of games, by his standards, for a few weeks. I was at the Kettering game and he had a few misplaced passes, where he showed his disappointment. You cannot make a proper judgement on the YouTube clip. He is your first on the team sheet player, but of late he hasn’t exactly justified that.
It seems you don’t go to the games now, I do remember reading the reason why some time ago. Someone near me on Friday remarked that Barrett hadn’t had a good game for several weeks. But that’s because we know what he is capable of and probably expect more from him. As I say, he would be in my starting 11, but of late he hasn’t hit the levels we’ve seen from him previously.
