Play off final today.

Anyone going to watch it?
I think Kidderminster will walk it after beating us so convincingly.  :cup2:

Totally undeserved.
Why undeserved when for the past 2 months they have been the best team ion the league above everyone, AFC included.
They have gone about done the business precisely. Best of luck to them, they will need it.

The NL should be more balanced next year with the two big hitters moving up.  The two Clubs coming down both seem to have issues.  The same could be said for one or two others like Southend.

Can’t see any Clubs in the NL doing a ‘Wrexham/Notts Co’
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

Being 24 behind makes no difference. It's on the day like the FA cup.

I totally agree with you GS50. ProMotion via a play off should never have replaced automatic promotion, but instead should have provided 1 additional promotion. I do wish Kidderminster well in the National League, I just don’t think the current NLN play off system is correct and would like to see the top two go up automatically, with the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th go into play offs. That old mean more teams being relegated from the NL to accommodate.
We got to the NL and because of covid, we were given a ‘free’ season, but if anything was learnt, it didn’t show because we got relegated in our second season. That is the really disappointing thing, because it’s so hard to get back.
I’ve watched Lynn since the late 60’s, but do feel very much like you GS, what is the point in playing 46 games and after that you may have to play a team that finished more than 20 points above, or below you to decide a promotion spot. I won’t be watching Lynn next season to the same extent I did this season, unless the play off structure changes.

Totally agree…makes a mockery of a long hard season……….and the opportunity to really progress almost discarded whilst in the NL during that second season.it’s hugely difficult getting out of this league.

The current structure encourages teams to start the season with an average line up and then reassess at Christmas, bring some significant signings in and then look to build towards the playoffs with the emphasis on the last 3 games. The attraction of a top two clash anytime before February has gone…it’s now meaningless part way through the season, so where’s the incentive for the fans ? I hear Hughes say he wants to emulate last season’s great start…but why…it’s irrelevant….what he needs to emulate is Kiddie’s great finish.

Would you all be saying the same had we won the play offs?
I don't think so.
It's how the league works, not just ours but most of them.
We didn't turn up for the play off game, and that's not anyone else's fault.
We had an excellent opportunity with home advantage in both potential games and blew it. Sour grapes won't alter the fact.
Go again next season. We know the format and that won't change.

It was a one off game but Kidderminster on the day were a class apart. Added to which i don't believe we currently have an off field operation that is capable of sustaining even a mid table position in NL.

Go again next season doing the same will just produce the same disappointment.

My comment wasn’t sour grapes at all……..I would have the same stance for any club in that situation.

Fact is it’s a lottery at play off stage and you need things to go your way, which fortunately Notts County did have otherwise they too would have been let down by the system.

However, as you say, it is what it is………and what it means is  that unless you are one of the best funded clubs in the league, you should forget about top spot and aim for doing well in the play offs………and how that is supposed to translate into fan interest and attendance between August and March, I am not really sure. Certainly for me a big disincentive. Just because it “is” doesn’t make it right or acceptable.

As long as they don’t move the goalposts halfway through a season, it’s fine. Same rules apply to all.
Just because some don’t approve it doesn’t make it wrong or unacceptable either.

You’re welcome to your view of “it’s fine” but it’s just your view….and I am entitled to mine that it’s very definitely not……and I guess there will be those that support both stances……..to my mind just because a rule is there, doesn’t change and is the same for all doesn’t mean that is ok. Questioning rules is healthy sometimes.

I quite agree Rod…….we are miles off being a significant NL presence
