Not looking good.
« on: June 22, 2023, 12:08:57 AM »
As it stands next season is going to be a a disaster. Can't see any way forward so far. Thought we could bounce back after being so close last year but as it stands just another team in the mid table!
What do you all think so far?

Don't panic! I expect everything is on that table and is currently being sorted.

Hi Anton…..certainly a lack of news. However, personally,as I have posted before, I feel that there has to be a different approach to last year. With Scunthorpe’s buying power, I can’t see past them for the title. We have to learn from last year. With the way the league is set up, there’s nothing for being the best team in the league, but finishing second and being fatigued after a long chase, by the time the play offs arrive. Also I think last year was a one off in terms of squad funding. Lynn don’t currently have the commercial set up to challenge for top spot year after year. So I am not surprised by the budget cut and the consequent loss of some of the best players.
I will be surprised if any of those offered contracts, who haven’t yet agreed ,stay with Lynn. I am also resigned to the fact that Crowther and JB May be prised away. I suspect the club is looking to the future, by building up the u23’s and hoping to be significantly stronger in a couple of years time.

Just looking at who we have (possibly):

2 very good goalkeepers

Josh Coulson

Tai Fleming?

Olly Scott

Hargreaves

Hughes

Ponticelli

Stephens

Obviously Hargreaves and Scott could be Widdler targets. But with a few shrewd additions and the odd Academy/u23 player, I still feel the club can be mid table. When you look at Alfreton last year……24 points behind Lynn, limited resources and squad….still made playoffs

I don't think we should be panicking just yet.
I know 3 of our best players have left, and can't really blame them, probably more money considering the clubs they have joined.
We still have the bulk of the squad from last season, and a few decent signings would see us in a position to challenge again.
Try to have a bit of positivity.  :scarf:

Have to stay positive Jesus.  No news is good news, maybe.

Heard a rumour the chairman has 8 players coming on trial from various places for the new Manager to run his eye over in pre-season training.    Is this the Chairman being proactive with Team matters ?

Then again it’s only rumours
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

I think the person who looks like he is getting chucked in the deep end is our manager. More leaving, less coming in, lets see how he preforms along with his coaching staff. Or will it be an early taxi?

Wack our Chairman has always had a keen eye for Managers to have a look at players he has had recommended to him etc.  Both Culverhouse and Widdler have had that pleasure of the Chairmans  recruitment.

With us now having an inexperienced Manager onboard I think that SC will feel even more responsibility to offer more guidance that previous

Will these players become to be known as the first of the "400 club" we heard about a couple of seasons ago?

If the chairman doesn't want to pay out as much as he has been in the past then we are probably bu**ered. Maybe he should try and sell. He'd probably get his initial investment back 10 fold as there must be lots of people from all over the world willing to invest 1 to 1.5 million in a national league north club these days. Who's for a Chinese owner?

More likelihood of a Chinese takeaway than takeover?

I am in the 'not panicking' group at present.  There is the core of a squad from last season, albeit with a couple of big losses (with maybe more to come) but we have to be realistic about things - we can't expect SC to continue with the level of financial doping that I would imagine he put in last year, even with the cup run and also, with remaining full-time we have to accept that we are unlikely to be the first choice for many players wanting to remain full-time footballers.

With that in mind, I am comfortable if we could attract one or two more experienced heads (I can't see Coulson lasting another full season pace wise) and then look for younger players who might be having pre-season trials higher up the pyramid but then don't get taken on.  Not ideal for MH's first pre-season in charge but might be worth being patient to pick up a player or three who fall through the cracks.
