We are all quick to moan about Mark Hughes and agreed, Hughes isn't setting the world on fire at the moment

But his assistant seems more clueless than even Hughes.

What does Whitbread bring to the party?? and my fear is that if Hughes does depart, be it resign or get sacked, Cleeve will appoint Whitbread.

Just give the budget, which I’d say is much higher than when he was in charge, to Gary Setchell love or hate the lad he had passion imo wasn’t given a decent chance at all

I don't think many would disagree that Setch wasn't given a chance. Big error by the Chairman. Who know's what he could have achieved with the bigger budget that following Managers enjoyed?

I believe that what many are fearful of, is that whoever is in charge going forward, its all too late.

Whats really going to change if a new Manager was appointed. The current problems appear much deeper than just the Manager and his playing staff.

First they fascinate the fools, then they attempt to gag the intelligent.

The problems have been there for all to see, if they wanted to, for some considerable time but on field performances papered over the ever widening cracks, which have now been fully exposed.

So much belief in coaches and managers.  If there is “learning” in football, they would all reach the point at which they are deemed to “know” the game.  However, they all get sacked, so does that mean they had forgotten what they “learned”?!  Players motivate themselves and other players, not managers.  All any club needs is a manager with contacts and the money to lure them, then tell the team to outnumber the opposition in as many situations as they can.  Screaming and hollering are irrelevant…

Setch knows how to motivate the players,he has so far not managed an unsuccesful team?

Gary Setchell coming back in next season. That could be a touch of irony.    Lynn relegated back to step 3, back to part-time.  Setch coming back in where he left it previously.  Budget slashed.  A balance sheet showing a 7 figure sum on the wrong side.   Could the Chairman’s self esteem really take all of that ?

CV could read....I came, I saw ...... I ????
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

I agree that too many manager's over complicate, which is probably driven by a need to self protect. You need leaders in the dressing room and on the pitch but one of the greatest footballing man managers in my lifetime: the primary motivator who alwsys kept things simple, was the great Brian Clough!!

Sadly, I think all a Manager needs is money. As we have seen ourselves, "contacts" seem to bear very little fruit these days.

Simple arithmetic. The higher you go, the more you need. It's crazy to reach for the Stars without adequate funding already in the Bank, in the hope that you've got the sums right for your future income!

With regards Setch coming back, if I had his ear I'd tell him to hold fire at the moment and bide his time.

It seems to work at Stevenage.   :laughcry:
