At last a young hungry manager with an excellent cv and potential....
With experience of this league and more,  is a huge advantage in a very tough league...
Big credit to the chairman who saw the opportunity and dealt with it in the correct manner

What Malc a bit like Sooty ?  :laughcry:.   Id settle for a team that becomes hard to beat and creates a few chances.

Not sure what kind of budget Adam had to work with at CA but have to assume this is a grade or two up.

New beginnings and all that

Malc did you ever get to the bottom of the ‘supposedly’ missing money, or will that now remain a mystery for all time ?

Suggest you chat to Barry about the 'missing' money? It was left in his capable hands to deal with after the committee disbanded!
Perhaps a lunatic was simply a minority of one.

It’s all about personal preference.  Mall wants a team that is “hard to beat, and creates a few chances”.  I prefer a team that creates loads of chances, and defends in depth/numbers.  But this is the beginning of a new era.  That had the Dillometer going back over different eras.  In that respect, who remembers the team with the forward line of Baxter, Luke, Dixon, Sewell, Lockey?… and whether or not it was successful?….. Bear in mind, any answer will inevitably give away the age of the responder!!!

I do!! A time when team's played five forwards, two wing halves and a centre half flanked by two full backs and goalie. Strategy tended to evolve around outscoring the opposition, with tricky speedy wingers beating their fullback, getting to the by line and crossing towards an old fashioned centre forward. Manager's who managed before the game rather than continually shouting instructions from the side line. In fact more often than not they watched from the grandstand with just the trainer and his magical bucket of cold water and sponge at pitch level. Captain's were charged with 'managing' once the game started. No play acting, professional fouls, time wasting, stewards required.....or player's agents!

A much simpler and generally more enjoyable time was had by all.

Yes, Rod Frank Lockey came from Swindon and had played for Liverpool. He stayed in the area
and passed away about 6 years ago.
Bobby Lumbley was here about 2 years in the team that played at Everton, Got booed because he looked like Jimmy Melia of Liverpool
in that game.
The forward line that was mentioned was the team that beat Aldershot and Reading in 59.

Thanks for the input, folks. They did beat Aldershot (I went from school), but I believe they lost to Reading….
