Why would we want to lose Barrett?  The likes of Crowther can be made out of village players, whereas talented players are hard to find and keep.  JB has been the best player here throughout, and would have been even better had he had others of his level around him.  On the finance front, fingers crossed things aren’t as bad as have been painted.  Perhaps “Academies” can produce players, but I’m not a believer that footballers can be taught, and if the odd one is found he will be likely to go to a higher level.  There is a chance of avoiding relegation, but it is now looking difficult.  Suggest putting JB first name on the team sheet, and going for wins rather than holding out for 70 minutes a game…

Dilly, I assume you haven't watched too many games live this season with that statement about JB, it seems it isn't just me that would question it either and AL would also disagree, I think it was after the Boston home game he was asked if  the reason JB didn't make the bench was an injury and he said he wasn't injured, just not selected or words to that effect.  I don't think anyone doubts JB's 'talent' but when there is so little end product (as has been the case for most of this season and I would argue longer) then questions will be asked and it may be that he needs better players alongside him but given we have what we have then either JB needs to adapt (which he hasn't) or we go another route (which appears to be what AL is doing).

AL was singing Barrett’s praises when he first came to the club.  First class attitude etc.   Seems since he got injured the Manager may have seen a different side to the player, or maybe the player has changed his opinion on AL?

I don’t see how Al’s opinion on a player is of any greater significance than a spectator’s.  It’s a simple game of opinions. The Man U manager constantly picks McTominay to compete against quicker and slicker midfield opponents, and doubtless there will be Birmingham City supporters driven to distraction by Rooney selections!  I just think picking his BEST players is all a manager has to do, (after he has attracted them to the club, of course!). Gloucester were really poor at The Walks, but if they’re Number 7 fancies a year or two on the Nth Norfolk coast, put the feelers out straightaway!!!  Happy New Year to all!

Presumably, as the deal has not been done and a firesale is no longer required, he'll now be staying with us?  :dontknow:

I understand he had his medical today and will officially sign and be announced tomorrow.

He will have to wait as centre halves have been excellent.

Shrimper you have got yaself a player there.  Good luck to him at Roots Hall.   You might well have got West End quality for Southend prices.

O well, at least that's money made available to pay the outstanding tax bill.   :rain:

I'm sure he will be very happy at roots hall.

Seems exactly the type of player that we are now looking to sign.

Best of luck to you in the future. It seems that you have  investment to stabilise your club.

Had a good day out, if a little cramped on the opening day a few years back.
