Sorry to see Josh go and wish him well. Arguably one of the most talented players I've seen and could play at a higher level than Aldershot, but that's down to him and him alone that he isn't.

It's clear he's not wanted to be here this season, hasn't exactly shown on the pitch he wants to be here and clearly not in Adam's plans. Even in his pre-match warm ups he looked uninterested. Would guess he's one of the higher earners as well so good to get him off the wage bill.

Yes we probably should have got money for him, but if anyone had watched him this season I'm not surprised we have no offers!!

You could argue it's better to try and get money for him, but you could also argue that if someone doesn't want to be here and is one of the higher earners it's better for both parties they go rather than just sit out the last few months of his contract without, probably, playing.

Then again Paul, Tommy Widdrington would know exactly what Josh Barrett is worth and has turned over The Chairman, yet again.

Has anyone heard about all this compo coming Lynn’s way for TW walking out ? Or could that be another Cleeve tall story ?
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

Yes that's true. If Tommy can get the best out of him again then it's a good deal for them. If he can't then come the summer, when his Aldershot deal ends, he could easily be looking for another club. If that happens can see him becoming a bit of a journeyman going from club to club.

Barrett is a talented player, we cannot deny that, but his attitude and application lets him down.

I'm disappointed we didn't command a fee for him, but as others have said, at least it frees up some wages.

The fact it's Aldershot and Widdrington annoys me - and without wishing to derail the thread, do we know if Lynn are getting any compensation or money fro Widdrington walking out on us??

I haven't heard or seen anything regarding that matter??

I seem to remember reading somewhere that we were not entitled to anything. I could be wrong, but that was my understanding of it.

I dont think we got anything when Peter Morris cleared off to Kettering and took Hudson and McNamara with him.  Football contracts are a joke.

So on that basis we got Lakeland on a ‘free’ from Curzon did we ?   I think not.  He might be good with a vintage port or champers.  Even plots of land but in a Football environment he seems to get handed his ass on a regular basis

 How we need to look at this situation is, the money saved over the weeks left of this season is the transfer fee we have received. Josh was obviously not in the managers plans, for what ever reason and would have just been around picking up a wage, so now he’s gone we are saving x amount of £s per week. Strange way of looking at it but it works for me. :oldman"

Usually with a transfer, you get a fee AND the savings from not having to pay the players wage.

Not to mention a sell on fee if the players moves on further.

To be fair to SC, there were many fans both on here and elsewhere on social media who were saying we couldn't let Josh go for anything less than 'silly money' at the start of the season.  The fact that he has now gone on a free is more down to how much his stock has fallen than any action of the chairman, no matter what valuation he had unless you have a willing buyer you won't have a sale and I think that is where we have been with Barrett for a while and so I think we were right to cut our losses as better now than on a free at the end of the season and at least we can use the wages saved on someone AL  wants in the team.

As I said before Tony, if there is one Manager who knows his worth then it’s Widdrington.  SC has allowed him to ‘steal’ him away.  I would have thought TW was the last person Lynn would be doing a favour.

I get what you’re saying and I would usually say the same, but he was on his bike at the end of the season any way, so we are saving and or banking his wages each week he’s not on the payroll.

As I said a few days ago, Josh ‘departed’ Bristol Rovers for unacceptable fitness / application reasons. It was only a matter of time before he left us for the same reasons.
I wish him well and sincerely hope he finds his way again. Before he came to Lynn, he admitted that he had fallen out of love with football. Good luck to him and Aldershot. I think if it’s Josh’s wages now paying Margetts, then maybe it wasn’t such a bad bit of business.
