Barrett moves to Aldershot on a free transfer.

Greg’s article.

Shouldn’t the heading be benchwarmer goes to Aldershot?

Has to be a disappointing piece of business not to get a few quid for a skilful, gifted player.  Aldershot  have cash on the hip on the back of a decent FA Cup run, and having just sold Josh Stokes to Bristol City What is Cleeve thinking of doing Widdrington a favour ?

What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

That’s the best deal this manager has done. He must have been one of the higher earners and keeping the bench warm when he made it that far.

Bad news.  We’re very short on the flair necessary to win games.  His skill was looked on as a luxury here, but he’s now at the level he should be.  I think the Aldershot players around him will benefit from his creativity.  It always surprises me how skilful players often get accused of being “in and out” in games and not “putting in a shift”, but are usually the match-winners, yet the huff and puffers are praised for their workrate despite hardly ever achieving anything.  Still it’s all opinions, but now we must get back to battling for survival in this league… But we need more skill if we are to succeed…

There's no way Josh will last 90 minutes at NL level. Probably signed to make a cameo appearance in the last 10/15 minutes and hoping for a free kick around 25 yards out.

Basically on trial until the end of the season to see if he has the inclination to get himself fit.

It’s a real pity that we have let such a gifted player go for nothing but alas he didn’t fit in with the managers team, well only time will tell, one thing I do know we have to start winning and pretty dam Quick starting with tomorrow night

Widdrington can manage skilful players. Lakeland can manage gut busting runners. Whose results do you prefer?

Us ?  Surely these poor decisions are on one man’s shoulders ?  Talk is Stokes has gone for £250k plus add one’s.   Then to compound it the man who tucked SC up over Stokes gets Barrett for nought.

Struggling to understand the bigger picture at the moment.Financial backing has been secured so surely hold on to your best players or at least in Barratts case get a decent fee....and Aldershot really  :laughcry:

Sorry  I see it differently
He is out of contract at the end of the season so could go free then anyway
He has had a brief appearance against Warrington in the last 2 months so has hardly been in the shop window for offers
Is he even interested in playing for us ? Did he think before the financial news we would go under?
Didn't look remotely interested
At least it frees up his wages for the two new guys and that seems to be more important at the moment

I agree completely Linnet. I know some feel otherwise but I think we'll be better off without him in the long run. He could have been a real asset but there were serious question marks ongoing over fitness, motivation etc.  Maybe he's his own worst enemy?

I agree and disagree.  For sure we wanted him off our books.  On the flip side he is, arguably the player worth the most in terms of ability.  So has to have some kind of value.  If Crowther was worth £35k then surely Barrett has to be worth £10k.?

Just sticks in the claw that TW has f’ us over yet again, and SC has signed off on it.

Can only think he has gone on a free because it was perhaps getting toxic and affecting the squad. BUT what a terrible bit of business financially. I mean, honestly, does any other NLN club appear so naive on a regular basis......Taylor, Stokes, the ridiculous situation with Olly Scott and now Barrett. It looks like Lynn are out manoeuvred at every turn and it costs them big time. Just looking at the last two, I believe offers were made earlier in the piece, Lynn turn them down, fail to negotiate further and end up with diddly squit. Appears laughable...yes we are not party to all the info, but when I see talented people apparently being given away, even when their heart is no longer with Lynn, I have little sympathy when the club has financial issues. Tommy must be having one huge laugh......probably will need stitches for the splits in his sides.
