More favours required on Saturday.
« on: January 30, 2024, 08:16:20 PM »
An interesting one to watch tonight,,,,,,Banbury v Darlington, Both teams playing out one of their games in hand over Lynn,

With Lynn's NLN status currently out of their own hands we are again looking for favours from our local neighbours Boston Utd and Peterborough Sports who play Southport and Spennymoor respectively.

If Lynn fail to win at Gloucester the situation becomes dire.

 :banghead; :banghead; Sorry Squire but I have to disagree with you, LYNN FC. position has been dire for a couple of weeks already, teams around us picking up wins,  and we are constantly being told a home point gained is a good result. Wake up, smell the coffee, we are in deep trouble and it’s getting worse week after week at the moment. In my mind it’s when, not if we get relegated. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t see anything to persuade me differently at this moment.  :banghead; :banghead;

Have to agree Dazza
The stats don't lie  Last 9 home games  W 1 D3 L 5  Goals for 6 goals against 11
6 points from a possible 27  ( 3 of our goals in one game against Scunny)

I can't disagree Dazza and Linnet.  If somehow AL can save Lynn from the drop then he can rightly be called the modern day Houdini.

I can't help thinking AL is saying to himself,,,,,,,,,What on earth have I done.

AL ppg has averaged under 1 during his tenure.  That gets you relegated.  I wonder what he is basing his idea on that he can keep us up, delusion?
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

15 games to go 45 points possible if we can get 20 to 25 points we could be ok. We have just got to have faith in our set up with AL and hope we get over the line. Whatever happens a new start with freshening and strengthening the squad will be required.Hopefully in our current league. COYL.

AL needs to ditch "Hoofball" from a packed defence and hoping to snatch a goal in the last 15mins as against Chester.

We need to play with width using both wings - one as an attack and the other as bac k up for the over-hit cross or clearance by the opposition. Those wingers also need support from midfield to give them options (cross the ball or pass back if running into trouble). Hoofball should only be used when the opposition are pressing high and leaving space behind them in their midfield/defence or when pressure needs to be relieved when under sustained attack by opposition. THE BEST FORM OF DEFENCE IS - ATTACK,
The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty." — Winston Churchill

Stopping “doom and gloom” is irrelevant to our fortunes.  So is “getting behind the manager”.  The only way to better results is through better players playing better football.  It isn’t possible to make ordinary players play better than they are.  Gloucester looked hopeless at The Walks, apart from their clever Number 7.  They may, of course, have recruited better players since then, and I sincerely hope I’m wrong, but I suspect Gloucester will squeeze a close win.  I’m pleased with Heacham’s impressive journey, and they should stay up, but I’m always disappointed with managerial comments like “They’ve learned how to win fouls”!.  Not part of the game, imho, and currently too common…..

Dilly, I know you are not a fan of football managers in general but this is utter nonsense imo.  Football is a team sport and it is perfectly possible for 'inferior' players to be a better team than one made up of slightly better individuals, likewise players will respond differently to different management styles and there is no 'one size fits all'.

You also have to accept that the role of a manager at Lynn, where there is rarely the chance to buy to fill gaps, is much more about getting the most out of the squad you have available, many of whom may have compromised skill sets.  This was something TW was great at, for example Theo had zero pace over any distance but the role he had at the start of last season allowed him to use his head to do a vital role for the team without exposing his weakness too often.  Likewise the squad IC gained promotion to the NL with wasn't the strongest man-for-man in the league that year but IC combined their skills to produce a team far above the sum of it's parts.  After half a season I have my doubts whether AL possesses this vital attribute and it looks like his skills are more along the lines of attracting those players who fitted 'his style' from those available to him in the North West, an area where this is made easier due to the density of NLN standard players.

That’s spot on Tony.  Cully got the very best out of the squad he put together.   Maybe Dilly you have heard the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts ?

What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

I agree. The best managers / coaches, particularly where there are major budgetary constraints, have the ability to devise a system that best suits the squad. Round pegs in round holes etc

Sorry TonyM, Mall, and Rod.  I’m sure we’re all friends, but I disagree completely!  Watch Klopp and Pep, smile and leave when interviewers start on in-depth questions that they know aren’t in-depth at all.  Pep said last week “I do nothing, the players know how to play”.  And re IC, I think he DID basically have the best squad in the league in promotion year.  Yes, a team of lesser players can win the odd game against a team of superior players, but over a season, the good players will be up near the top, and the lesser players will struggle in most games and be fighting relegation.  All imho!!!….. On “managers”, they all get sacked in the end, and usually after a couple of seasons!
