Aldershot fans not impressed
« on: February 13, 2024, 11:06:41 PM »
Josh Barrett and Theo look like they have been plucked from the lower reaches of the Aldershot and District Sunday league. Why start them together when Barrett is clearly not going to last until the second half? Sure enough he went off after 20 mins.

Barrett is basically on trial until the end of the season at Aldershot.  As it stands his fitness is way below the level required to perform at NL level.  It's in his own hands, lets see if he wants it.

Such a shame.

Tommy hasn’t had a lot of luck with his signings from Kings Lynn.

Zain Walker not kicked a ball and now in his 2nd loan spell away.
Arron Jones  now on the sidelines after suffering his 2nd long term injury.
Ollie Scott.  Carried on his injury prone ways that he suffered with us. Out again
Theo W.  Oh dear.  Fans at Shots sussed out the situation there PDQ.  Daddy keeps giving him game time when the Shots fans can see he is nowhere near step 1 level.
Josh B... 2 stone overweight ( according to shots fans). Makes his full time debut and blows up after 20 mins.

5-0 home thrashing last night for Shots.  3-0 down at the break and Widd Jun gets booked.
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

I have to say I’m devastated for Tommy, such a shame. :banghead;

TW did a very good job for us in terms of utilising player's strengths whilst hiding their weaknesses but much harder to do that in the NL with players who probably aren't that level.  Jones is a more than capable right back (maybe exposed pace wise once or twice a season but generally solid) but Scott and Theo would always struggle and never thought Walker posed any threat at NLN level so was unlikely to ever make an impact in the NL.  As for Barrett, for all his technical ability, I just can't see him getting fit enough in the time remaining this season and the pace of the game will be too much for him as it often was when we in the NL and he was fitter then.

Unlike some, I wish Tommy all the best.  Much as it wasn't a great time for him to leave and it doesn't appear to have been done 'properly', he took his opportunity when it came to go to a genuine NL club.  No doubt he will make mistakes (in hindsight probably took too many KLTFC players with him) but so do lots of managers and Aldershot appear to be better this season than previous years so far.
