Squad
« on: June 27, 2024, 10:39:17 AM »
So, what's people's verdict so far on the squad ? Not long now till training commences. Looks like a midfielder still to join and possibly a forward. I did wonder whether Alfie Bates from Brackley , would be joining, as he had left his club, but now apparently has "had a change of heart" (I guess modern day parlance for things didn't work out with potential new club), so he has rejoined Brackley.

My view is the current squad, with a new midfielder and a target man is similar to what we had at the end of last season. Much may depend on how prolific the target man and Margetts are. Very difficult to call at this stage, but I am still concerned about the lack of pace in the back line, when someone like Ashley Hemmings is running free. I would go for about mid table, for next season,on balance.

Its supposed to be a "Cracking season" that awaits us.

Last season AL inherited a squad that was not up to the level.  He managed to pull a few in that saw him gets to safety.   This coming season is his squad and his pre-season.   So think we will be far fitter.  He  will want a successful season, even expect it.

The two unknown factors for me are what surface will the players have to perform on ( come November) and what budget has Joe made available.
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

Let’s not get negative, give the man and his signings and hopefully another 2or 3 a chance.

I can't see a negative post on this thread Linnet....just natural speculation about what might happen, which is what fans do. Think you are being over defensive...you and Mr Hill. Think we need more positive and open discussion......who would you like us to sign Linnet...how about you Mr Hill, what are your thoughts on the squad  and what you hope for over the next ten months ?

I still think a couple who were retained from last season will leave yet.

Goalkeeper and defensive positions seem covered but I think we're still short in centre midfield (especially a more defensive minded player) and upfront. Would like to see at least 1 in each of these positions, if not 2.

Likes of Crane & Hmami seem to be creative players, which we clearly missed at times last season. Need to keep Margetts fit. Taylor was very good when he came in on loan so that's a big plus getting him.

Play offs must be the aim I'd have thought.

Any further news on McCammon joining from Peterborough Sports? I recall he is a midfield man. When do the Linnets start training or have they started?

Think they are back at it on Monday with the first friendly a week tomorrow.  I’m with Paul
Think there will be a few going out on loan or being moved on.

:scarf: Pre-season hard to judge especially with the away matches. As in previous seasons I would think there will be a few invitee trial lists who are unattached.
AL doesn’t like losing so I expect some matches will be ground out against better opposition when required. Hopefully we will make a fast start to the season and make the Walks a stronghold where others fear to tread!
