Opening game of the season.
« on: August 05, 2024, 10:15:37 AM »
Nothing better ( in Football terms) than a home game on the opening day of the season.

Hopefully there will be a 1000 plus crowd in as AL has brought in a new feel good factor to the playing side.

He is spoilt for choice with options for a starting 11, though Margetts will be a big miss.  Think we have the depth to cover this though.    A new midfield player should be in today so gives AL even more choice.  Wonder if it’s a loaner from Fleetwood, the Manager seems to have a good connection there.

I’m thinking we are going to send out a huge message to the League on Saturday and hand a 3-0 beating.   Though I’d take a scrappy 1-0.

What are others thinking ?

What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

I understand that Fleetwood are trying to find a new home for Maleace Asamoah, but he's not a midfielder.   :dontknow:

Had a little hint from someone within  the inner sanctum at the Club that it’s a midfielder coming not from Fleetwood but from another EFL… Stockport Co

Did someone ask you to take the post down when you named another player??  :phone:

Yes, and in the spirit of co-operation, I did so.

How did you know that, or was it just a guess??

Surely if you were that worried about the "spirit of co-operation" you wouldn't have posted it in the first place.

Hope Mr XXXX doesn't get in trouble for passing the information on?

You didn't answer my question.

Nobody passed anything on.  Where did you get that from, or does it just fit your agenda to suggest that?  :stir:

You're not only barking up the wrong tree, you in the wrong forest on that one!

Surely if you were that worried about the "spirit of co-operation" you wouldn't have posted it in the first place.

I didn't say I was worried about it! Why should I be? I really don't understand your logic on this one. What's wrong about speculating with regards to players coming in (or not)? What's posting about players coming in got to do with Spirit of co-operation"? Being asked to remove something from the forum happens quite a bit, and for all sorts of reasons. Nothing strange in that. We co-operate where and when we can and think fit.

With everyone and his dog having social media accounts these days, Club statements, Club forums, Facebook etc etc etc its really not that difficult to get an idea whats going on and who's moving. Knowing the kind of player a Club is looking for (as AL has stated on this one), and if you add in to the fact that most Managers have very few real contacts in the game and usually visit clubs for players where they have been previously (i.e. Managing, playing, signing previous players etc), and you can get an idea. It's can be time consuming, but I've got plenty of that, but it's not exactly rocket science.

Also, people at all Clubs usually like to show others how "important" they are, and they tend to do that by dropping hints. You know how that goes........"don't say I said this but........". Then of course the first thing the recipient of such information does  is get in touch with a friend and says "..........don't say I said this but.......".

Irrespective of you personally liking it or not, there's nothing wrong with it and its all part and parcel of supporting/following a Club.

Prior to the internet, it used to be called "terrace talk".

This is an interesting debate Paul/B&G.   I would suggest you both contacts within the Hallowed Walls of The Walks.  I’m sure when you are both asked to keep a confidence then you would have the grace to honour that, as indeed so would I.    It’s not unusual to be told something that certain people from within the Club want leaked.      For example I have seen nothing about the Kobe Chong playing Sunday football story, or maybe I missed it ?

As for the new signing AL has drip fed little clues out over the last few games.  It keeps the interest for the fans and wets the appetite for the signing.   I would consider it good marketing on AL’s part, on behalf of the Club.  I would hazard a guess that all 3 of us know the identity of the new signing but each have kept that confidence.

:scarf: No Jonny Margetts for Saturday? Why ,injured or moved on. This is not a good statement without a reason given. There is no news of him leaving so imho this sentence should have been redacted to stop rumours possible false starting.

Suspended for two matches following his red card last season.

I am thinking Warrington are currently bottom and Lynn are mid table, so I am hoping for a win :laughcry:

In summary then......the idea is to whet people's appetites, but, the signings seem to take so long to come through, that by the time they do , most know who is coming, so when it's announced it's old hat

I guess not everyone reads this forum so it will still be fresh to them when  announced on the Clubs Twitter feed.
